📰🗣️President and CDO Damian Beauchamp spoke with Latitude Media’s Lisa Martine Jenkins about the value strategic partners can bring to FOAK projects: “Companies must understand that if they want to be a big player in the energy transition space, they have to go beyond commitments and instead pursue direct investments and partnerships to help take innovative tech into the mainstream.” As Damian explains, providing direct investments, project management support, and access to broader supply chains and resources are just a few ways larger companies can play an active role in bringing innovative decarbonization technologies to market. In case you missed it, the International Energy Agency (IEA) published their annual World Energy Outlook report on the state of energy security, decarbonization, and electricity demand. As the researchers found, carbon capture and storage will play a crucial role in reducing total emissions, with new government support to expand projects and kickstart advancements in DAC technologies. 8 Rivers is proud to be working with partners like JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration to demonstrate the potential of our Calcite DAC platform as an affordable solution for decarbonizing some of the hardest-to-abate industries across the globe. Check out the IEA’s report below for more insights on the future of carbon capture technology!

8 Rivers is a proud member of the Carbon Removal Alliance! As the global carbon removal market scales quickly to meet emissions reduction goals, we must prioritize monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) for emerging carbon removal and direct air capture (DAC) technologies. We’re excited to be working with other industry leaders to promote policies that will establish actionable, clear MRV requirements and prioritize quality in the growing U.S. carbon removal market. Read the Carbon Removal Alliance’s new policy roadmap to learn how we’re shaping a competitive, trustworthy carbon removal market for buyers, investors, technology providers, and policymakers. ⬇️

Three words will help shape the next phase of the carbon removal market scale-up: Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV). For buyers, innovators, and those just trying to understand the climate benefit of carbon removal, establishing clear and consistent quality measures through MRV policy is critical. Our new policy roadmap charts a course for the U.S. government to help scale the industry, bring down prices per ton, and ensure that all carbon removal efforts are helping us meet our climate goals. "Carbon removal buyers want a transparent market that they can understand," said Executive Director of the Carbon Removal Alliance, Giana Amador. "The federal government should establish clear and consistent MRV standards to bolster competitiveness and trust in this critical industry. This is a crucial step for the continued growth of the carbon removal market.” Read the full policy report: https://lnkd.in/gf3_XzYP

Large tech companies are investing in direct air capture (DAC), and I'm encouraged to see funds and attention being poured into climatetech. But the ability to scale first-of-a-kind (FOAK) DAC projects quickly - and deliver tangible emissions reductions - relies heavily on the manner in which investments are made. Meta just announced a $35M pledge for carbon capture with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). This comes one month after Google invested $10 million in DAC, in the form of an advanced market commitment. These large chunks of money, paid upfront, demonstrate that Big Tech believes in DAC solutions. That’s encouraging! But time is of the essence. The most rapid way to scale the DAC industry is to invest directly in DAC projects themselves; in the technology and in putting steel in the ground. Direct investments in tech and projects over investments in markets created by future projects makes emissions reductions happen quicker. The recent investment into Calcite, 8 Rivers' DAC tech, from partner JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration, is a great example of a targeted direct investment. It's great to see DAC receive the funds and attention it deserves, and I personally look forward to the industry’s further progression. 8 Rivers takes a unique approach to deploying first-of-its-kind net zero solutions - this includes leveraging proven technologies and infrastructure in novel ways across clean power generation, direct air capture (DAC), and ultra-low-carbon fuel production. Jordan Blum of Hart Energy dove into this topic with 8 Rivers CEO Christopher Richardson at Gastech Exhibition & Conference 2024 in Houston. Some highlights of their discussion include: 🤝 How JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration is investing in its first DAC project, which uses Calcite 🟣 That we’ve partnered with Siemens Energy on a supercritical CO2 turbine that uses CO2 to generate clean electricity  📈 For DAC to make maximum impact at the economics it needs to hit, it needs to be at scale and repeatable Watch the full conversation below!
