UPDATE: New Taxonomy Codes Approved for Physician Nutrition Specialist On 1 January, the National Uniform Claim Committee (NUCC) added new taxonomy codes for US Physician Nutrition Specialists (PNS), providing a separate taxonomy code for the National Board of Physician Nutrition Specialist (NBPNS) certified physicians, as well as codes for their primary specialties. This update nationally recognizes Medical Nutrition as a subspecialty of Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Anesthesiology, and General Surgery. The new codes will take effect 1 April and will enhance the ability to accurately classify and support Physician Nutrition Specialists working collaboratively with Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) to ensure optimal patient care.
