Ongoing scour and erosion had left a bridge abutment vulnerable, exposing piles and pile caps beneath the structure. We stepped in to restore stability and protect the bridge from further damage. We reshaped the slope and installed soil nails deep into the abutment. To lock in long-term stability, we also reinforced the slope with steel mesh, plates, and nuts, followed by a robust shotcrete finish. Two retaining walls were discovered to have inadequate safety factors for supporting the new rail lines due to undersized base blocks that compromised the integrity of the structures. Our Solution? We implemented a soil nail stabilization system, installing 55 hollow bar nails up to 20 feet deep.
