Fighting period poverty in Omaha, Nebraska through the thoughtful distribution of menstrual products.

About us

Access Period fights period poverty in Omaha, Nebraska through the thoughtful distribution of menstrual products. Because one in four people who menstruate experience period poverty, Access Period provides free menstrual products through the organizations that already serve our community. To create a sustainable solution to the problem of period poverty, we combat the stigma and secrecy surrounding menstruation by inviting our neighbors and local business leaders to take part in lasting change.

Coming together to support those in need is what our community does best. Packing personal products and organizing furniture for delivery are just a couple ways our teammates have pitched in to help those affected by last month’s tornadoes in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. As an organization, we have also donated a total of $100,000 to four nonprofit organizations on the front line of disaster recovery.

It was a top ten day at Access Period. This is Nurse Julia, a true light who advocates for and takes amazing care of her students. She is leaving Ralston High School to travel the world, so we said ‘goodbye for now’. The classroom behind her is full of brave students who are new to the United States. They’ve been receiving Access Period packs from Nurse Julia all year, but today we got to meet them in person and give them three-month kits so they can have a supply of period products for the whole summer - and one less thing to worry about. To top it off, Nurse Julia gifted Access Period with this awesome uterus. Comment with name suggestions!

We're thrilled to announce our partnership with Access Period for the 2024 ICAN Women’s Leadership Conference! Access Period is making a huge impact by combating period poverty in Nebraska, providing free menstrual products to those in need. For those joining us in person on May 15, please bring along a product donation to help support this amazing cause! Most needed items are pads, tampons, liners, menstrual cups, period underwear. No one should be held back because they lack access to basic necessities, but 2 in 5 people struggle to purchase period products due to lack of income and lack of coverage by any safety net programs. Let's see our collective power come together in support! Don’t forget, virtual registration for the 2024 ICAN Women’s Leadership Conference is available until midnight tonight! Learn more at ICANconference.com.

What an incredible honor it has been to receive a Borsheims Big Impact Grant! This will allow us to serve thousands more Nebraskans through free period products in schools, with our community partners, and at statewide Access Points. One of the most exciting things about this opportunity has been getting to spend time with the staff and receiving such a warm welcome from the Borsheims family. If we could think of 20,000 different ways to say “thank you” we would! This award is aptly named, because together we are making a BIG IMPACT!

Throughout the year we invite organizations that will receive a monetary gift from Borsheims to visit our store and share with our staff more about what they do, whom they serve, how our gift will impact them and how we can get more involved. This month, we welcomed Access Period to share their mission with us. Access Period helps combat period poverty by providing free menstrual products to anyone who needs them in Nebraska.

This week, our Culture & Inclusion team coordinated a #WomensHistoryMonth Access Period Packing Party through the BeInvolved program at Children’s Nebraska. Our paid community volunteering program, BeInvolved, empowers team members to share their time and talents with any nonprofit organization whose mission is focused on improving the health and wellbeing of children and families.   Access Period works to provide barrier-free access to menstrual products for those experiencing the greatest need across our state. Thank you to the 30 women who volunteered this week, packaging a total of 400 3-month kits for women and adolescents across our state! 👏🏼
