📚✨We are thrilled to celebrate the amazing work of our former Accountability Lab Mexico Country Director, Eva Sander González, who has made a remarkable contribution to the new book "Abramos México: From Experience to the New Open Data Agenda." In her chapter, "Futures and Open Data: Creativity and Collectivity for Social Innovation," Eva dives into the transformative power of open data for social change—and we’re proud to see Accountability Lab and our HackCorruption initiative featured as an example of using technology to promote transparency and accountability! Eva’s continued dedication to driving social innovation and strengthening communities is inspiring, and we’re honoured to see her work pushing boundaries in the open data space. 💻 Congratulations, Eva! Thank you for championing the power of open data and for always being a part of the Accountability Lab family. 🙌 🎉 #OpenData #SocialInnovation #Transparency #HackCorruption #Leadership

Supporting active citizens, responsible leaders and accountable institutions around the world.
About us
Our vision is a world in which people with power are accountable. It is a world in which resources are used wisely, decisions benefit everyone fairly, and people lead secure lives. We are catalyzing a new generation of active citizens and responsible leaders around the world by supporting change-makers to develop and implement positive ideas for integrity in their communities. By enabling people to generate the knowledge, skills and networks needed for accountability, we unleash positive social and economic change. We have three mutually-reinforcing objectives: to support a positive movement to build accountability; provide substantive, flexible and long-term support for those leaders who can collectively lead this movement within specific contexts; and support collaboration around accountability and open governance.

Ten years since the first time we chose 'naming and faming', and we're still convinced it's the best way to support and build out networks of people dedicated to a public service that people deserve. What started as a concept to celebrate exceptional government workers, Integrity Icon has expanded to support and intentionally build networks for public servants at all levels (Integrity Innovation Lab), and to highlight the thoughtleadership around what a better public service can look like (Integrity Summit) 👓 While we're feeling nostalgic, step back with us to where it all started: https://bit.ly/3Ys6Hzc

🚰 AL's Civic Action Teams in South Africa have helped bring relief to a community in Johannesburg affected by a year-long water crisis. For 13 months, key community facilities in Mondeor, south of the city, were left high and dry without water. This disconnection disrupted essential services that families rely on for childcare, recreation, and community events. The team stepped in to investigate the root cause of the crisis, uncovering an outstanding water bill of R2 million. However, even after raising the alarm, municipal departments failed to take responsibility, further delaying the resolution. Now that water has been restored, the team continues to push for transparency. The lack of official communication regarding the reasons for the water crisis and how it was resolved raises serious concerns about governance and accountability in Johannesburg. 💬 As Dawood Raphalalane stated: “While we’re relieved water is back, it’s crucial that it was done responsibly, without corruption, and with transparency.” Read the full story in the Comaro Chronicle on how the community is standing up for its rights and demanding better from those in power. 🔗 Link to article: https://bit.ly/4dMvClx The project is co-funded by the European Union and is a collaboration between Accountability Lab South Africa, the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, the Social Justice Initiative, and the Public Service Accountability Monitor (PSAM). #CivActs #A4A #ServiceDelivery #Transparency #WaterRights #Johannesburg

When power is concentrated in the hands of the few, and those few don't share resources wisely, make decisions that benefit everyone fairly, or create the conditions for people to lead secure lives, it can seem as though this is all that's possible. But it's not. With the right support, the many who are working hard to challenge difficult conditions can influence institutions and systems. It's their solutions we want to support and their stories that we want to tell. 💪 If you agree, read more how we counter perceptions of futility: https://bit.ly/47VtxCB #PositiveDeviance #CreativeApproaches #MakingGovernanceWork
