Big win for Isfara’s dried fruits industry: ISO 22000 certification secured! In #Tajikistan, Isfara’s top dried fruit processors, Zardolui Isfara and Mevai Zarrin, have achieved the prestigious ISO 22000 international certification with support from USAID This milestone opens the doors to profitable new export markets, elevating Isfara's reputation for quality and safety on the global stage. This success is the result of the synergy and collaborative efforts between the USAID-funded Market Driven Rural Development (MDRD) Activity, which we proudly implement, and USAID’s Trade Central Asia. Together, we have worked to ensure excellence in food safety and management systems for these leading companies. It’s important to note that approximately 10% of the global production of apricots is concentrated in Sughd province, where further processing takes place in Isfara. The remote Tajik city is rich in apricot orchards and fills countless foreign markets’ shelves with dried fruits. Mevai Zarrin obtained the ISO 22000 Food Safety System certification, and Zardolui Isfara received the ISO 22000:2018 Management System certification—both valid for three years. This is just the beginning of exciting export opportunities and a brighter future for Isfara’s businesses! Earlier, MDRD brought in U.S. food safety expert Clifford Wener to work with Mevai Zarrin, further improving their standards. 🔗 Check out our article on the results of Cliff’s impactful work and stay tuned for more updates as Isfara’s journey to global recognition continues! https://bit.ly/3tUi724

In remote areas of Kenya, the demand for solar power, cold storage, and solar irrigation is high, but many struggle with upfront costs. Solargen Technologies Ltd., founded by Abubakar Aidarus, offers a Pay-As-You-Go (PAYGO) model, making solar solutions affordable through small, manageable payments. However, finding Shariah-compliant, growth-focused financing was a challenge—until the USAID Kuza Activity’s Impact for Northern Kenya Fund stepped in. The Fund, a $34 million impact investment vehicle, provided tailored, Shariah-compliant financing to help Solargen scale up. This investment boosted stock availability and project turnaround times, directly enhancing access to water and electricity, and increasing resilience to drought and food insecurity. ☀️ Learn how Solargen is expanding across Kenya with support from the Fund: https://bit.ly/4gPvW63 #ImpactInvestment #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower

Humans have a multi-sensory connection with the natural world, be it forests, oceans, your garden, or even some of your favorite music. This was a key theme in the first few days at the #COP16 Colombia, especially at the Instituto de Investigación de Recursos Biológicos Alexander von Humboldt (this is an amazing Colombian institution that other countries should replicate). Some highlights: 🌎 Half Earth from the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation, where Harrison Ford told us to "Listen to the Quiet" of the Earth around us, followed up by Species Protection Index ☀ Restoration, working lands conservation, and biodiversity offsets in Colombia, using these various financial instruments to support species conservation Smithsonian Institution #birdfriendly 🌳 REDD+ programs in the Pacific Choco, where carbon markets provide crucial funding for biodiversity conservation in this high endemism habitat Wildlife Works Terra Global Capital USAID BioREDD 🥁 Biodiversity and "Vallenato" music from the dry forests of northern Colombia, where a Colombian botanist and a music group illustrated the fascinating connection between the flora and fauna of the region and this traditional Colombian music Fundación Jardín Botánico de Medellín ACDI/VOCA ACDI/VOCA COLOMBIA #JuntanzaEtnica
