In just a few days, nearly 750 cancer advocates will arrive in Washington, D.C. to participate in our annual Leadership Summit and Lobby Day (also known as #CancerLobbyDay)! It’s a 3-day event where volunteers meet with their lawmakers to advocate for evidence-based public policies that will benefit cancer patients and their families. But it's also an all-encompassing conference where volunteers learn, share and grow together. We advocate for evidence-based public policies to reduce the cancer burden for everyone.
About us
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) advocates for evidence-based public policies to reduce the cancer burden for everyone. We engage our volunteers across the country to make their voices heard by policymakers at every level of government. We believe everyone should have a fair and just opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer. Since 2001, as the American Cancer Society’s nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy affiliate, ACS CAN has successfully advocated for billions of dollars in cancer research funding, expanded access to quality affordable health care, and advanced proven tobacco control measures. We stand with our volunteers—people whose lives have been impacted by cancer—rallying to demand change. Together, we’re working to make cancer a top priority for public officials and candidates at the federal, state, and local levels. By engaging advocates across the country to make their voices heard, ACS CAN influences legislative and regulatory solutions that will end cancer as we know it, for everyone. Leading the American Cancer Society and American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the honor of a lifetime. Over the last 3.5 years, we have increased our impact and focused on improving the lives of cancer patients and their families. I love this organization! With ACS on strong footing and having accomplished what I came to achieve, today I announce my plans to hand over the reins...more to come. https://lnkd.in/gPrT63sC

Today ACS CAN joined Keep Americans Covered, a coalition of the health care community working together to protect access to affordable health coverage. Enhanced premium tax credits have helped more than 20 million Americans obtain affordable health coverage. But Congressional inaction would lead to a tax increase for struggling families. If lawmakers don’t act, these tax credits will soon expire, premiums would skyrocket and millions would lose coverage altogether. Learn how we’re working to protect patients: AmericansCovered.org

"Being an advocate sounds intimidating, but you should never doubt the impact that you can make. Your story has power. Your experience has power. Everyone has something to offer, and no contribution is too small. There are opportunities to get involved at all levels." September is #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth. Grace was diagnosed with a brain tumor when she was just nine years old. Now cancer-free, she wants to make a difference for other pediatric cancer patients and put a face to childhood cancer issues. Read her story and learn how she's advocating for childhood #CancerResearch:
