Last week Lisa Brady, V.P. of Global Sustainability and Chief Sustainability Officer at Insulet Corporation shared the #sustainability efforts and strategies they deploy at Insulet. Her insights and expertise provided immense value to the attendees! Lisa sat down with us to discuss why she chose to speak at the #MedtechSustainabilityForum, and the outcomes she hopes to see from events just like this one ⬇

We're still reeling from the innovative ideas and topics discussed at the first-ever #MedtechSustainabilityForum last week! While at the event, we talked to Susan Moffatt-Bruce, President at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. She shared why she participated in the Medtech Sustainability Forum and emphasized why we need to think differently when it comes to improving #sustainability practices in #healthcare.
-
The first #MedtechSustainabilityForum brought together leaders on all sides of #Sustainability, from large corporations like Medtronic, to local organizations like Massachusetts Life Sciences Center and startups like NeedleAID by DECAP. This event generated impactful conversations and ideas that left attendees feeling empowered and capable of making a difference. We were thrilled by the engagement and support, and thank everyone who joined us today. A massive thank you to our many event sponsors and to our host Foley & Lardner LLP for helping us provide such a powerful event! We’ll share additional videos and insights from this event, so make sure you follow and stay in the know!

During the #MedtechSustainabilityForum, we connected with Robert (Rob) Ellsworth, Director of the Enterprise Sustainability Program at Medtronic. He shared why events like the Medtech Sustainability Forum are crucial for encouraging collaboration and communication between all sides of the #healthcare industry.

We’ve heard impressive stories and examples of sustainable efforts from our esteemed event speakers during the first-ever #MedtechSustainabilityForum, and we haven’t even made it to lunch! Organizing committee members Joan Popolo and Cormac O'Prey reminded us why we are here today, with a powerful comparison that highlighted the environmental impact of the healthcare industry. “If it were a country, healthcare would be the 5th leading emitter of greenhouse gases.” Morning keynote Lisa Brady, V.P. of Global Sustainability and Chief Sustainability Officer at Insulet Corporation walked us through introducing circular practices at Insulet. From reducing their 400 page starter guide to just a few pages, and eventually redesigning how they produced and packaged their product, they’ve reduced their carbon footprint by 77%! Our first morning panel, ‘Global Response to Sustainability in Medical Devices and Healthcare’ featured Robert (Rob) Ellsworth, with sponsor Medtronic, Shannon Hoste with Pathway to Patient Health and Tom Frantz from Technimark LLC. Their topics spanned from improving current practices at their own organizations, the challenge of reducing plastic waste in hospitals to the impact global regulations has on sustainability efforts. We’re excited for what the rest of the day will hold! #Sustainability #LifeSciences #MedicalDevices #MedtechSustainability Foley & Lardner LLP, UMass Lowell Innovation Hub, MassMEDIC

The #Medtech #Sustainability Forum is just over a week away on May 16th! This interactive Forum is designed to generate actionable solutions for medtech and #healthcare organizations to advance their sustainability goals #circular strategies, showcasing examples of corporations that have found success in these models. Sustainability in medical device design has become an important consideration for manufacturers and end users. It is increasingly recognized that not only are sustainable medical devices better for the environment and what consumers prefer, but they can offer business benefits in terms of cost savings, investor attractiveness, and improved brand and competitive advantage. We acknowledge that preserving a healthy environment and building socially responsible value chains are essential in keeping humans in good health. The medtech industry can take a leadership role in addressing sustainable healthcare challenges, and we feel that sustainable and circular solutions are the key to addressing these issues. Join us for the Medtech Sustainability Forum and add to the conversation! Medical plastics provide the benefits of sterility, safety, durability and quality for the healthcare industry. But these single-use plastics come with significant environmental consequences. Over 32 billion pounds of plastics were produced globally in 2020 for the healthcare industry, and it is expected that by 2025, it will grow to 48 billion pounds. This means there is a huge amount of waste generated, much of which is uncontaminated and #recyclable. Learn about the #sustainable and #circular practices being used to reduce this #waste burden. Join ACTION Innovation Network and UMass Lowell Innovation Hub at the #Medtech #Sustainability Forum on May 16th at Foley & Lardner LLP for a dynamic session on Advancing Sustainability in #Medical #Plastics with Peylina Chu, ED Healthcare Plastics Recycling Council (HPRC), Katherine Hofmann, PhD Sustainability Strategics Initiative Manager at Eastman and Daniel Lachos Perez, Department of Plastics Engineering University of Massachusetts Lowell, moderated by Richard Meiklejohn of UMassM2D2. Participate in the discussion with medical industry stakeholders, key opinion leaders, academics and researchers, subject experts and standards professionals/regulators discuss #sustainability efforts in the #medtech and #healthcare industries.
