On January 24th Activate STL took 45 High School Students from St. Louis to meet with the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus!!! This was a powerful and magical experience as the students and legislators left energized and eager to stay connected! Hearing directly from students was so important for these legislators, and most importantly, the students left inspired to be the change they want to see in education and their communities!! Also, a shout-out to 2 of our Activators from Cohort 1 who got to open up the National School Choice Week Ceremony with powerful speeches! I'm so thankful to the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus, Inc. for their partnership, words of wisdom, and mentorship! I'm excited to continue this partnership in the future!!

Activate STL Quality Schools Coalition and Children's Education Alliance of Missouri were on a mission yesterday to advocate for bills that improve education in Missouri! Witnessing parents tell their stories to elected officials is always so powerful! We had some awesome meetings yesterday, and this is just the beginning.... see you next month and the month after that :)! The teacher/parent partnership is critical to student’s success. What organizations help best facilitate that partnership? (Comments welcome!) One of my favorite things about my hometown newspaper the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is the innovative content partnerships they have to cover state and national issues. The content they publish by The 74 Media is one of them. And this is a great article by #education journalist Kate Rix. Learning about the work of Activate STL has inspired me to think more about how teachers and parents advocate for better schools. So here are my questions: 1. What are the local, state and national organizations doing this best? Who should we be following? 2. Who are the teachers, academics, thinkers, leaders, funders, and authors in this space that are creating real impact? 3. What books should I be reading, podcasts should we be listening to? 4.
