In September, ADAPT Community Network collaborated with Para Arts Foundation, Inc. on their second annual art exhibition showcasing works by people with disabilities. The Brooklyn exhibit, titled, “Disability Is No Barrier to Creativity and Achievement,” included a fashion show, an art competition, an auction, and live musical performances. The 2024 Virtual Family Connect Summit is in two weeks—register NOW for a chance to receive a FREE CHROMEBOOK! October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month! Down syndrome is a chromosomal condition where a person is born with a full or partial extra chromosome. Individuals with Down syndrome can go to college, get married, and some can live fully independently. Community, good health care, and quality education are important ways to support people with Down syndrome and help them to live fulfilling and active lives. ADAPT Community Network is proud to provide programs and services assisting people with Down syndrome. On Saturday, a group of people we support had the honor of attending the first annual New York Yankees Deaf Awareness Day. They received t-shirts with “Yankees” printed on the back in ASL and watched a performance of the National Anthem with live ASL interpretation. The people supported were so excited to see their fellow attendees communicating using sign language during the game and received two free tickets to attend Yankees games next year. Thank you to the Yankees for supporting and including the deaf and hard of hearing community!

Congratulations to the cast, crew, and supporters of Hamlet Adapted for an incredible series of performances! Throughout the year, participants from all over ADAPT Community Network’s Adult Day Programs built elaborate sets, worked on scripts, and spent months rehearsing for the multimedia theatre spectacular that took place in September at ADAPT’s Pelham Theater. The six shows incorporated poetry, lighting, music, videos, and audience participation to create a version of Hamlet personalized to the performers of ADAPT. Thank you to everyone who helped bring the show to life, including the writers, actors, behind-the-scenes crew, and the audience that came out to support the arts.
