Today's Mentor Team Spotlight is Fidelity Investments! For Fidelity's October visit (and first session of the school year), mentors visited their 5th grade class at John G. Carlisle Elementary School and spent time getting to know their students for the school year. In small groups, mentors and students chatted about themselves, what Fidelity is, what they do, and learned about the students and their interests. Afterward, the class came together and played a "Guess That Job" game. Picture clues were shown on the screen, and students had the chance to guess the job by combining the images (e.g., a picture of a bus + a picture of a screwdriver = bus driver). The students had a blast guessing the jobs and learning about them from their mentors. Thank you, Fidelity, for inspiring our students to dream big-- all while sparking interest in the many career pathways out there We appreciate you! 🫶

Hello The Shepherd Chemical Company family and friends! 🖐 I am excited to share my latest mentoring experience with Adopt A Class and The Shepherd Chemical Company! Our group has returned to Katie Ostendorf M.Ed’s 5th grade class for our second year of mentoring. We have a new wave of students and some new mentors that have joined our endeavor, so introductions are in order. 🍂 When we first meet the students, we want them to feel seen and valued. A good introduction is more than just exchanging names – it’s about creating a connection that builds trust and opens the door for meaningful learning. We began the fun with introducing ourselves by sharing our hobbies, favorite foods, and what jobs we thought were cool when we were in the 5th grade. Next, we had the students guess which mentor matches their 5th grade picture. The last activity was an informative game of “Would You Rather?” with the entire class and mentor group.  You never know what you can learn about a person until you play a couple round of this icebreaker. This visit was all about giving the students a chance to get to know their mentors. Before we handed out snacks near the end of our visit, we gave the students a survey asking basic questions like their name, what are two words you would use to describe yourself and what they want to be when they grow up.  This will be useful information that we will reference later in the year. 🍁 An hour goes by quickly when you are having fun! If you’re ever looking for a way to give back to your community and shape the future leaders, I highly recommend getting involved in mentoring. Together, we can make every first impression count! 🌎 #Mentors, #AdoptAClass, #CommunityOutreach Teacher: Katie Ostendorf M.Ed AAC Teammates: Eli Inabnitt stephanie downs Chad Juergensen Jordyn Strange Bethany Davies Ryan Ford AAC representative: Hannah Rizzi

Happy Friday! Today's Mentor Team Spotlight is Huseman Group! For their first visit with the 7th graders at Shroder Middle School, mentors and students focused on Life Skills. The visit began with a "Get to Know You" activity centered around setting personal and professional goals, as well as recognizing dreams and aspirations. Then, with the help of the Huseman Group mentors, students had the opportunity to create their own vision boards! Using photos and text from magazines for inspiration, students included things such as their dream job, hobbies, personality traits, and characteristics on their vision boards. We cannot thank Huseman Group enough for their support of our program and encouraging our students to dream big! 🚀

We are so excited to kick off our Mentor Team Spotlights for the 2024-2025 school year! Today, we would like to spotlight Cincinnati Children's introductory visit at a new school we launched this year— School For Creative & Performing Arts Cincinnati! For their October visit, mentors and their 4th-grade students spent some time getting to know each other. Mentors discussed the different tasks and responsibilities that team members have at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and then asked students to share what they would do if they worked at Children's. Afterward, they hosted stations with small groups where the mentors went more in-depth on the wide variety of jobs needed to keep daily operations running. Thank you, Cincinnati Children's, for a fantastic first visit and for sharing the many medical careers that are out there. You are inspiring today's students to become tomorrow's healthcare workers! 🩺🩻🫀
