Last week we celebrated the 10th anniversary of The Villa's at Meadowview housing development in Tewksbury, MA! As sponsors of the complex, we were delighted to commemorate a decade of care and comfort created by this community. Thank you to all who attended! #HealthyAging

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲? I’ve been on staff for 11 years, and I was a volunteer for two years before that. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐚 𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞? The best thing is that there is not a typical day. There’s so much that can be happening. I field a lot of phone calls from residents, family members, hospital staff, and people in the community. The calls can be about things like how to choose the right nursing home to dealing with complaints and concerns. I also try to go on-site visits once a week to check in with residents and see if they have any concerns. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐛? The best part is never knowing what the day brings. It’s that sense of the unknown. It’s exciting. Not knowing what to expect keeps me thinking, keeps me aware of the unexpected. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐧? I started as a volunteer, then became the Assistant Program Manager, then the Director of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program. I appreciate the ability to grow as a professional. AgeSpan has always been focused on helping employees grow professionally and meeting them where they are. The support from senior leadership is amazing, and the trust is inspiring. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 #𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲𝐀𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮? Aging is something we all experience. Choices for life's journey has been my main motto since I embarked on a career in health care/health and human services. I’ve been a vegetarian for 29 years, so I try to practice healthy eating habits. I also try to stay active by taking walks on the beach three to four times a week. 𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐳’𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮? Last week, we got together with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs at the Salem Council on Aging to explore and discuss how we can make our communities more age- and dementia-friendly. We were thrilled to hear so many valuable perspectives and insights from individuals in our community. Thanks to all who attended! A Spanish session will be held at the Lawrence Council on Aging on July 23. To register, please call us at 978-946-1298. #AgeFriendly #HealthyAging #Community #Impact #DementiaFriendly #Salem #YourFeedbackMatters #AgeSpan #OlderAdults #SalemMA #AgeFriendlyCommunities
