#EMBRCBlog | How EMBRC focuses on FAIR, open and multidisciplinary data 🔵 EMBRC is dedicated to promoting Open Science, following inclusive global standards, and using Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) data. ➡️ Three of the projects we’ve been involved in are putting this into practice: 🇪🇺 DTO BioFlow 👉 This project is focused on streamlining FAIR biodiversity monitoring data from various sources into Digital Twins of the ocean 📅 Our Data Scientist Christina Pavloudi represented EMBRC at the GA (1–3 October) 🇪🇺 FAIR-EASE 👉 This focuses on opening gateways between data domains within multidisciplinary projects, with tools enabling interdisciplinary access to FAIR data in the Earth Sciences. The work will continue until 2025 through Blue-Cloud. 📅 Our Technical and Coordination Officer Tosca Sala attended the GA (8–10 October) 🇪🇺 AI4Life EU project 👉 This project is working to democratise access to FAIR data and open AI models by creating an accessible platform and offering training for life scientists 📅 Our Communications Officer Gwenaëlle Walter attended the GA (21–22 October) We’re pleased to have played a part in these great projects, which had their General Assemblies in October, and are looking forward to future collaborations with our partners. 🔗 Read our blog to discover how EMBRC supports Open Data through EU projects: https://lnkd.in/eHFYVBH7 #DTOBioFlow #FairEase #AI4Life #GeneralAssembly #MarineScience European Commission EMBRC Spain EMBRC Belgium EMBRC France EMBRC Greece VLIZ - Flanders Marine Institute Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences

This study is a fantastic example of how impactful the AI4Life Open Calls are for AI-driven image analysis—here revealing complex symbiotic relationships within oceanic plankton. Congratulations to everyone involved! 👏 The AI4Life Open Calls aim to accelerate breakthroughs just like this by supporting scientific teams with AI tools for image analysis. Explore all the exciting use cases here 👉 https://lnkd.in/d4NeD5Pq And stay tuned—our 3rd Open Call is launching very soon!
New study of the team where we describe a new fascinating symbiosis in oceanic plankton unveiled by 3D imaging and photophysiology: "Hijacking and Integration of Algal Plastids and Mitochondria in a Polar Planktonic Host". - led by PhD Student Ananya Kedige Rao from Université Grenoble Alpes and CNRS, with the collaboration of Benoit Gallet from Institut de Biologie Structurale (IBS), Omaya Dudin, PhD from Université de Genève, Joran Deschamps and Florian Jug from Human Technopole, Pierre-Henri Jouneau from CEA-Irig https://lnkd.in/dMhz7EeQ Thanks to AI4Life EU project (development of new AI-based image segmentation), and European Research Council (ERC) Below, video of a 3D reconstruction, showing the dinoflagellate host that engulfs and retains multiple plastids (green) and mitochondria (red) of the microalga Phaeocystis.

Thank you to everyone who made these past two weeks so engaging! We started with a hackathon last week, followed by two intense days of discussion at this week's General Assembly. The General Assembly featured demos, updates from our Work Packages and Research Infrastructure partners, and a fantastic panel discussion on future sustainability. A big thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of these events. It was a pleasure meeting so many brilliant minds!
