Working to end the HIV epidemic in the United States through strategic grant-making, capacity building and policy.

About us

AIDS United is singularly focused on ending the HIV epidemic in the United States. During our almost 30-year history, we have changed and grown the funding landscape for HIV and transformed the policy environment. To date we have directly funded more than $98 million to local communities and have leveraged more than $115 million in additional support for programs that include access to care for people living with HIV, capacity building for community-based organizations, HIV prevention, advocacy, syringe access, and more. Through our Public Policy Committee, we’ve built the largest and strongest coalition of HIV-focused organizations working at the community level. Our coalition works together every day to ensure national and local policies reflect local realities and support an effective response to the end of AIDS.

The stakes for reproductive rights in the United States have never been higher. For the first time in over 50 years, many Americans will head to the polls to vote in a presidential election without the ability to legally obtain an abortion in their home state. The future of reproductive rights in this country—and potentially the makeup of the Supreme Court for a generation—hinges on the outcome of this election. It’s crucial that voters understand exactly where Vice President Kamala Harris and Former President Donald Trump stand on abortion. Here are their past actions and policy stances on the issue. This year's election will have a major impact on whether it is easier or harder for people living with and impacted by HIV to access the healthcare they need. The fate of the Affordable Care Act, protections for people with preexisting conditions, drug pricing negotiations, and the future of Medicaid and Medicare all hang in the balance. To help sift through the noise and get to the facts, here is a breakdown of the policy positions of Vice President Kamala Harris and Former President Donald Trump on healthcare access. As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, AIDS United is proud to honor the memory of Cuban-American immigrant, HIV/AIDS educator and advocate Pedro Zamora. An inspiring speaker, Zamora traveled to schools, churches, conferences and even testified before the United States Congress calling for more explicit HIV/AIDS education programs in American schools and for Spanish-speaking communities. AIDS United continues to honor the memory of Pedro Zamora through the Pedro Zamora Public Policy Fellowship. Our current fellow, Sophia Obregon shares: These experiences with AIDS United and through the fellowship have built my passion for this work and Zamora’s legacy continues to inspire me to make change. Today, on National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD), we at AIDS United honor the familia we’ve lost and stand in solidarity with the incredible leadership of local and national leaders transforming Latine communities living with and affected by HIV. We will continue amplifying the community’s stories and efforts in advocating for the health and well-being of nuestra gente so they may thrive and flourish in the places they live, work, and play. Despite representing a fraction of the total US population, Latine communities account for a third of total HIV incidence. The community has, for years, been experiencing an HIV crisis that for too long has been invisible to the broader HIV movement. This invisibility is no longer tolerable. Racism, xenophobia, transphobia, homophobia, poverty, and stigma affect the ability to access healthcare and prevention services and continue driving these health disparities. AIDS United recognizes the courage and determination of leaders whose work confronts these challenges daily, and we honor their tireless efforts and dedication to their communities. Christopher J.
