Had a great time in Nashville last week with the attendees of AOC Connect -- in spite of Helene giving us some really wet weather ☔. With Tina Shah MD MPH, Danny Goel, MD and Greg Chang, we were able to share some thoughts and robust discussions with attendees on key technical innovations like GenAI and VR/AR that can significantly enhance the work and lives of orthopedists, administrators and patients. Some key takeaways for me: ⏰ the time and cognitive load that can be saved by providers from using GenAI-powered ambient note taking tools like Abridge 💪 the improved skills and performance that can come from time in VR/AR surgical scenarios especially in light of the recent changes to working hours of medical residents 🚀 the impact GenAI can have on revenue cycle activities empowering RCM specialists to be more productive and comprehensive -- streamlining time and operations for providers as well Thanks to everyone who attended. I'm looking forward to connecting again.

Some of the AKASA engineering team spent last weekend at PyBay, a Python programming conference in San Francisco. 🐍 Here’s what Sanjay Siddhanti, our VP of platform engineering, had to say about the event: “PyBay is one of my favorite conferences to attend every year. It was great to see some old friends and meet new ones. Python is used for such a broad set of tasks — including web apps, machine learning, data pipelines, and desktop apps. This makes PyBay really interesting, as it feels like everyone is using Python for different use cases. It also presents some unique challenges, as Peter Wang hit on in his talk about Python packaging. As a Python shop, we’re always looking to share ideas and learn from others in the ecosystem. We had a great time at PyBay and hope to be back next year!” 👩💻👨💻 AKASA is hiring. Machine learning engineers, front-end engineers, software engineers, and more. The link to our open roles is in the comments. 👇   Tyler Omlid Armaghan Behlum Lucas Wiman #PyBay2024 #Python #MachineLearning #SoftwareEngineering #FrontEnd #DataScience #Hiring #TechCommunity #SFTech #PythonDevelopers

(pictured: HFMA South Texas board and committee members) One more reason: I’m hosting a great roundtable on Monday at 9 a.m. CT. Adopting Generative AI and LLMs in the Revenue Cycle I will talk about generative AI, how it works, and some popular use cases in the Revenue Cycle. But most importantly, you can discuss with your peers lessons learned and best practices about successfully implementing generative AI: ✅ Use cases  ⚒️ Tools and practices they’re implementing 🧠 Lessons they’ve learned 🤝 How to prepare your teams for working with these new tools See you in San Antonio! ✈️ We’re heading to AOC Connect this week to chat about generative AI (GenAI) with orthopaedic clinical and administrative teams. 🤝 Orthopaedic surgeons want to help patients and support training the next generation of surgeons. They don’t want to be burdened by administrative tasks or see patients delay surgeries due to prior auth. 🤯 🏎️ That’s where GenAI comes in, accelerating the speed and success rate of prior auths. Cory Costley, our chief product officer, is joining other industry leaders at AOC to chat about this very point. 🚨 Don’t miss this session: Transformative Al/VR/AR Solutions for Improving Care, Education, and MD Lives Friday, 9/27 9:30 a.m. CT 🧠 You'll learn how cutting-edge technology like GenAI is making a difference in healthcare. Thank you Greg Chang for moderating!

I was recently at a conference and overheard a chief product officer at a large tech company say, “LLMs aren’t real. They can’t deliver on any promises yet.” Actually... LLMs and generative AI are very real. And are delivering. They're bringing a long-awaited connection across the clinical world of records and patient care to the financial world of auths, outcomes, and claims. They enable software to rapidly and accurately understand large, complex clinical documents (such as chart records) and use the data meaningfully. We’ve used this technology to: ✂️ cut the time specialists spend on prior auth by 50% 🔎 empower them to find 15% more relevant clinical documents to include in auth requests 💡 GenAI and LLMs are the future of the revenue cycle. 💡 Amy Raymond, SVP of revenue cycle operations and deployments, on why GenAI technology is so promising for health systems and revenue cycles. Read the article to find out why prior auth is the perfect place to start.👇

💡 How is Johns Hopkins Medicine using generative AI in the revenue cycle? Watch this Becker's webinar to find out. Link in the comments 👇 💬 Joel Hammer, director for revenue cycle operations and innovation: “This is such an ever-changing landscape. You need to find that vendor that recognizes that the products that are offered now may become obsolete within the next couple of years, is willing to grow with you and has that forward-thinking mindset."
