Two major milestones for East Side Coastal Resiliency were celebrated by NYC Department of Design and Construction, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, project partners, and community members: completion of the first section of ESCR and the reopening of Murphy Brothers Playground. The first section of the project—completed ahead of schedule and under budget—employs floodwalls, berms, and moveable flood gates to protect the city’s coastline between East 15th Street and Asser Levy Playground. Murphy Brothers Playground reopened with improved climate resiliency measures and recreational spaces, including a basketball court, two new ballfields, a playground, and a dog run.
