Having a job doesn't always mean being able to afford a home. According to the 2024 Out of Reach study conducted by the National Low Income Housing Coalition and Housing Action Illinois, you would need to earn $32.96 per hour to afford fair market rent in Chicago. However, the city's minimum wage ranges from $15.00 to $15.80 per hour. To effectively combat homelessness, we must bridge the gap between wages and the cost of living.
