For millions of Illinoisans, Medicaid and SNAP are lifelines. They ensure families can see a doctor when they’re sick, people living with mental health or substance use conditions can get recovery services, and kids have enough to eat. These programs provide stability for people with disabilities, working families, and those facing hard times. But now, Congress is threatening to slash funding for these vital services. If these cuts go through, thousands of people could lose access to healthcare and food assistance. We can’t let that happen. That's why Friday, March 21st, together with Protect Our Care Illinois, we are hosting a phone banking event urge constituents in key Illinois congressional districts to call their representative to tell them NO CUTS to MEDICAID or SNAP! Our dialer system makes it quick and easy—you’ll be automatically connected to constituents in key districts. When they’re ready to take action, we’ll patch them through to their Representative’s office so they can demand a NO vote on these devastating cuts. Medicaid and SNAP save lives. Will you help us protect them? #ProtectMedicaid #SaveMedicaid #Medicaid #savesnap #nocutstomedicaid #nocuts
Mental health isn't confined to one part of our lives; it infiltrates all parts - at home, in social situations, and at work. A study from NAMI found that while most employees support discussing mental health at work, many fear judgment or career consequences. Watch Barb Solish, NAMI's national director of innovation, talk about why open conversations about #mentalhealth in the workplace matter and how to reduce stigma. https://bit.ly/4kTM8oy
In a world where so much feels unpredictable, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the things beyond our reach. We often find ourselves stressing over elements of life that are simply out of our control. When we acknowledge what we can’t change and focus on what we can, we create space for clarity and calm. Imagine the serenity that comes with this shift in perspective—less anxiety, more presence.

Thursday marked another victory for mental health with HB1085 passing out of the House Mental Health and Addiction Committee with bipartisan support. This bill would significantly improve access to mental health and substance use treatment by requiring insurance companies to pay fair reimbursement rates for behavioral health care (as they do for physical health care). "This is a critical step toward true parity — where mental health is treated the same as physical health, said State Representative Lindsey Lapointe at a press conference in Springfield. "By setting clear reimbursement boundaries and holding insurers accountable, we can break down financial barriers that have long prevented individuals and families from accessing the care they need." Thresholds is proud to be a leader in these efforts alongside State Rep. Lindsey LaPointe and State Senator Karina Villa to improve the state of mental healthcare in Illinois and beyond.

"We're fighting cuts when we really should be figuring out how to increase funding for these services that, in both the short and the long term, really save money." Thresholds' President and CEO Mark Ishaug talked with Axios about the potential devastation Medicaid cuts could have on both Thresholds, our clients, and the millions of people nationwide who rely on these benefits. "I have always said in my career that budgets, public budgets, nonprofit budgets, these are moral documents," Ishaug said. "What came out of the House last week was immoral." https://bit.ly/4koaqHb #SaveMedicaid #ProtectMedicaid #Medicaid #MedicaidMatters #MedicaidCuts
