About us

Alliance for Biosolutions gathers large businesses, SMEs, startups, universities and organisations that champion a necessary paradigm shift from fossil to green regulation. We are the FIRST ecosystem partnership for biosolutions created in 2020 by the Danish Chamber of Commerce, companies and research institutions at the frontier of the global green transition. We need to transition to a greener and more sustainable future. A future in which we must produce more, for more people on less land and with the lowest possible impact on our climate and enviroment. It is a massive undertaking that demands a break from conventional wisdom to pave the way for new solutions. This is why we have set up the Alliance for Biosolutions. Biosolutions constitute of biological products that are anchored in biotech, i.e. utilisation of living organisms, including enzymes, microorganisms, bacteria cultures, pheromones etc. for concrete applications and products that are used in other sectors’ manufacturing processes and as end products to enable sustainable transformations such as emission reductions. Products include alternative proteins, bio-based ingredients, bio pesticides, bio plastics, enzymes, probiotics, food cultures, and fermentation solutions for feed and food.

🌍✨ Towards a sustainable future with solutions from nature! ✨🌱   Yesterday marked an incredible milestone as we hosted the first ever Biosolutions High Level Summit at the old Danish Stock Exchange (Børsen) together with our collaborators at Novo Nordisk Foundation and DI Bio. Together with researchers, investors, leading companies, authorities and a series of innovative startups we gained amazing insights into the biosolutions sector and touched upon some of the roadblocks we need to address in order to activate biosolutions further to accelerate the green transition🌱 With the summit we aim to create a recurring platform for the entire sector to convene, share knowledge, and form partnerships as we believe in cross sectoral partnerships going forward! A heartfelt thank you to more than 130 participants for engaging with us and contributing to an amazing and inspiring afternoon 🙌 A special thanks to the Danish Minister for Industry, Business, and Financial Affairs Morten Bødskov, the Danish Minister for Food & Agri, Jacob Jensen, MP Linea Søgaard-Lidell and MP Ida Auken for leading the ambitions for the sector within the Danish government. And not at least a huge thank you to our keynotes David Zilber and Naila Moloo and the various panelists including Tommy Ahlers, Anders Spohr, Sara Sande, Rasmus Lauridsen, Randi Wahlsten, Tina Sejersgård Fanø, Svend Christensen and Lykke Friis who all contributed to making this day truly exceptional! We are over the moon 🚀🌕

VISIBUILT AT THE FEHMARNBELT PROJECT 💥 We’re thrilled to announce a major milestone for Visibuilt! We’ve just completed a successful feasibility test at the The Fehmarnbelt Project, where we upscaled the production of visiBIT and paved our very first road section at a parking lot. This achievement was made possible by the dedication from Northern Europe’s largest construction site, the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel, to test visiBIT as an alternative to traditional, fossil fuel-based bitumen in line with their commitment to reducing the CO2 footprint of the tunnel. Check out our latest press release on our website to read all about our preparations, and the results we’ve gained from paving our very first road at Fehmarn! 🛣️  Link: https://lnkd.in/dvaqXFnr A huge thank you to all our collaborators on this project: NCC, Femern A/S, Femern Link Contractors (FLC), DTU - Technical University of Denmark, Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen, Det Nationale Forskningscenter for Arbejdsmiljø (NFA), WE BUILD DENMARK, and Erhvervshus Sjælland. The project is part of Erhvervsfyrtårn Femern co-financed by EU and REACT-EU funds, and Danmarks Erhvervsfremmebestyrelse.

  • 🦠Major milestone for Algiecel 🌱 Congratulations to the team at ALGIECEL securing a significant investment from West Hill Capital for the company’s next leap in their scale-up journey🚀 💡Algiecel’s innovative biotechnology uses microalgae to capture CO2 emissions directly from industrial processes, converting them into valuable sustainable products such as omega-3/fish oil - without using fish at all - for humans and pets🦠 3 years since the establishment of Algiecel, CEO Henrik Busch-Larsen and his team is now positioned to take the next leap. This is also very positive news for the Danish ecosystem within biosolutions in general. According to Jens Nielsen, CEO at BioInnovation Institute we see a beginning tendency of attracting more foreign venture capital to the sector, which is much needed to ensure growth, jobs and green transition💰👏🏻🌱🚀 Susanne Palsten Buchardt Jascha Jäger Tina Moe Katrine Villarreal Villumsen

  • Clean oceans, more nature, a lower climate footprint, and increased exports – we can achieve it all! That's the message today from Dansk Vegetarisk Forening (DVF) - Vegetarian Society of Denmark and 52 other stakeholders, including the Alliance for Biosolutions and Dansk Erhverv (Danish Chamber of Commerce), published across multiple leading Danish newspapers today. This call to action is based on the UN Food and Agriculture Organization's data that shows 4 billion people need to shift towards greener and more sustainable diets. Denmark is already home to a growing number of companies innovating sustainable foods of tomorrow – from fermented to plant-based solutions. Some have won awards for quality and taste, while others are just starting their journey. These are the companies we must invest in to ensure a sustainable planet for future generations. We are proud to be among this call to action initiated by Dansk Vegetarisk Forening (DVF) - Vegetarian Society of Denmark urging politicians to act and set a new course for the agri-food production – and consumption🌱🚀

  • New look, same vision... We're thrilled to share some exciting news with you: 🚀 Our brand-new website is live! Not too long ago, we introduced our "fit for future" brand identity. Naturally, we had to align our Biosolutions community landing page with this fresh visual style. To bring our vision to life, we partnered with the very talented designer Christian Werther from Rehtrew 🎨🖥️. Christian’s ambition and eye for detail truly captured the essence of what the Alliance of Biosolutions stands for. Meanwhile, we invite you to take a closer look at our new website - and please do tell us what you think in comments 👇

  • The most complex question of the green transition? 🤔   And yet we tried to navigate through it…   Today, at Global Dilemma Conference, we hosted a session moderated by our Anne Lerche with 3 dedicated experts: Sara Sande from EIFO, Jonas Ahm-Lundgren from The Footprint Firm and Esben Lunde Larsen from The World Bank.     Together, they explored the investment landscape within food tech and biosolutions - and what a mountain to climb!   In conclusion, there is no silver bullet to navigate through investment opportunities within the food tech ecosystem.   However, the debate offered great insights into a variety of funding and investment opportunities, regulation, and innovation 💡   Some takeaways from the session:   ✅ Regulation drives innovation. 🚀 The panel agreed that regulatory frameworks can be a powerful catalyst for development. When rules and policies set high standards for sustainability, companies are pushed to innovate!   And as the panel agreed: Without clear pathways to implementation, even the most groundbreaking solutions can and will face problems with the funding process.   ✅It is valuable having strong organizations (such as Alliance for Biosolutions) supporting start-ups with legislation 🏢 Start-ups, especially in emerging sectors like food tech and biosolutions, often face challenges in navigating regulations and accessing resources. Support from organizations can help them cut through red tape, advocate for policies, and ultimately enable faster growth for the sector!   ✅Lastly, Jonas painted a metaphor about the transition: The green transition doesn’t need a single silver bullet – it needs a machine gun loaded with silver bullets! 🔫✨     A lot of notes were taken for this interesting debate today! Thanks again to the organizers for having us and to our 3 experts!

Future foods and fermented fungi – Meet Tempty Foods!   We’re excited to introduce a very special new member of the Alliance for Biosolutions: Tempty Foods, creators of an award-winning alternative to tofu and meat—and it's delicious! 😊   Tempty Foods was born from the team's own challenges with meat alternatives. At Tempty Foods, they set out to create a product that offers a more uniquely delicious taste experience rather than trying to imitate meat.   And the best part about Tempty Foods? The product is made from simple, wholesome ingredients. To be exact: carrots, parsley, lentils, quinoa, oats, and— most importantly — fermented fungi. Yes, you heard that right. No hidden E-numbers, just a few carefully selected ingredients, all handpicked to be the best of the best.   Tempty Foods showcases Danish food innovation at its finest, and we can confidently say that—because we’ve tasted it! 😊   As they say at Tempty, #StayTempted!

Did you know that “Evodia” is Greek for “pleasant scent”?   Well - you sure do now!   And it is a great thing to know because at the heart of our newest member, EvodiaBio, lies a mission to create pleasant aromas in the most environmentally friendly way possible. As a producer of sustainable aromas for non-alcoholic beer and beyond, EvodiaBio strives to infuse each brew with that same delightful scent and flavor.   And they have certainly succeeded. At Alliance for Biosolutions, we've served EvodiaBio's beers to large audiences on several occasions, and the response has always been marked by enthusiasm. The last time we served their Skovlyst X EvodiaBio beer, it only took a few minutes before we realized the stock was completely out.   That’s why we’re incredibly proud to announce that EvodiaBio has now joined Alliance for Biosolutions.   EvodiaBio's mission is to reinvent the production of natural aromas for a more sustainable world, eliminating the need for plant extraction or the use of petrochemicals, harmful catalysts, and solvents in aroma production.   Their #Yops for beer is just the beginning—their long-term aspiration is to supply the market with aromas for everything!   EvodiaBio is on an incredible journey, and we can't wait to see how they'll transform in the future! Oh, and we’ve saved the best for last! Camilla Kloss Fenneberg from EvodiaBio is joining our board as a new member, and we couldn’t be more proud. A big welcome in the alliance!
