Thank you to PRSA Richmond Chapter, VPM, and those listed below for hosting and participating in this informative and inspiring panel! We all learned so many effective and connective ways to include and communicate with Spanish-speaking audiences. This was an amazing event; we look forward to many more! #PRSA #PublicRelations

A big thank you to Karla Almendarez- Ramos Oscar Contreras, Keyris Manzanares, Bernardo D. Mejia and Lyons Sanchezconcha for sharing their insights on connecting with Spanish-speaking audiences for today’s PRSA Richmond Conexión y Comunicación event. Here are a few of the takeaways I jotted down: - Think internally first: Before reaching out to Latino and Hispanic stakeholders, ensure you have bilingual staff and resources internally. As Karla said, “You have to have your house ready to receive guests.” - Use simple Spanish: Our region’s Hispanic and Latino audiences are diverse and from different countries with various dialects, grammar and cultural expressions. Plain language is the best way to connect and avoid confusion. - Stick with it: It takes time and investment to build trust with Spanish-speaking communities. Your organization needs sustained outreach to truly breakthrough. This panel was a joy to plan alongside the chapter’s program and DEI committees. Thank you Connie Kottmann, APR, Jason Phillip Lee Madilynne Tanner and Andrea Siebentritt for making it happen, and for everyone who came out to learn this morning.
