Thank you @NeelyAdkins for joining the discussion today and sharing such powerful feedback! 💡 "Our next generation of HR and people leaders need to be better equipped to handle the "human being" at work, not just the "human doing" the work." 🚀 Jessi Zielinski, LMSW, SAP really brought the conversation to life with practical examples for how leaders can prioritize #mentalhealthatwork and make a positive impact!
Excellent presentation today by Jessi Zielinski, LMSW, SAP and the AllOne Health team discussing the real impact we, as people leaders, can have on our team members' mental health! For more than 70% of employees, their manager has more of an impact on their mental health than their doctor or therapist, and is equal to their spouse/partner. Managers have a very real responsibility to create a stigma-free culture at work that is both focused on an individual's performance and personal wellbeing. Granted, this is not easy. 1 in 3 Americans have some form of mental health or substance issue, and most managers have not been adequately trained or informed on how to handle this - They were simply the best individual contributor that got promoted with absolutely 0 knowledge or interest in how to be an effective manager. We cannot keep doing this. Our next generation of HR and people leaders need to be better equipped to handle the "human being" at work, not just the "human doing" the work. There is more to being a "valued team member" than just being a top performer. If we cannot meet the minimum needs of making our teams feel safe, connected, and free from stigma, we can't even begin the conversation of being more engaged or improving performance and productivity. The first step is training like this that brings to light the responsibility we all have on the livelihood and wellbeing of the people we serve as leaders, but the next step is to begin implementing these learnings to improve the lives of others as we continue to do great work and keep our teams accountable! #mentalhealth #employeeengagement #hr #leadership
