Yeah, I beat CANCER💃 (I finally found the courage to share after 2 years 🙈 ) #longpost Everyday someone asks me why I am always positive and make it my business to inspire others. Many have assumed it's because my life is perfect 🤣 Well, this is my story: ➟ Jan 1, 2022: I started my PhD in the United States having traveled > 6000 miles from Nigeria ALONE. ➟ Sept 29, 2022: I was suddenly diagnosed with CANCER and booked to have an emergency surgery by Oct 7th. ↳ I negotiated with my doctor for a later date (Oct.20) because I had received an award from Corteva Agriscience and was invited to speak in the New Frontiers Conference (Oct. 11-13) ↳ Everyone expected me to cancel the trip, it made total sense, right? You just learnt you had CANCER 😳 ↳ Well, I opted not to, figured if I was going to die, I might as well go out with a bang 😊 ➟ Oct 11-13, 2022: I went to Corteva, gave my talk and had a blast. ➟ Oct 20, 2022: I went through a life-changing open-abdomen surgery with no family support but for my dear Mentor, Dr. Olatunde and a few good friends. ↳ I lost over 60 pounds of my body weight and became thin as a rake. ↳ Recovery was brutal, I missed three months of in-person schooling and research work. ➟ Nov 1, 2022: I opted to continue my classes online, again everyone thought I was crazy ↳ I had the option to carry-over my courses to the following year but I chose NOT to! ➜ NO, I wasn’t trying to prove I was STRONG! ↳ I was just trying to stay SANE. ↳ I needed to channel my pain and suffering to something else, otherwise I would FALL APART. ➜ And falling apart was something I could not afford. ↳ I aced all those courses by the way. Graduated with CGPA: 4.0/4.0 Oct. 11, 2024: Successfully defended my dissertation (1 yr early) and joined the 2% of the world with a Ph.D 💃 ----- My reason for sharing my story is to inspire you! It’s a hard life we live in! We all go through hardships, but having a positive attitude can make terrible situations more bearable. In all my struggles, I was certain of one fact: ➜ Things could have turned out way worse than they did. So I decided my glass was half-full rather than half-empty. You can choose that too! Stay inspired! Stay happy!! Smile always!!! #cancer #survivor #2yearsanniversory #inspiration #elevateyourprofessionalpresencewith_Amaka

Presenting to you today, a small clip of healthcare workplace violence. Out of respect for the many that have experienced violence, my intent is meant to bring awareness to the general public of how much nurses and other healthcare workers endure while at work. Nurse Managers, Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Respiratory Therapists, Child Life Specialists, Doctors and many more come together to ensure every patient is taking care of so they can go back to their loved ones. Let’s help stop the violence towards healthcare workers. Gina A. Ruiz-Brice, DHA©, MSN, BSN, RN American Healthcare Worldwide Leadership #nurses #nurseleaders #nursemanagers #healthcareworkers

Imagine yourself in a hospital, visiting someone dear to you. You have certain expectations about the hospital’s ambiance, the professionalism of the staff, and the quality of care your loved one is receiving. However, the truth is that no hospital system is flawless and fully meets your expectations. A multitude of factors must align to ensure an excellent patient experience. Today, I present to you a clip of, “A Glimpse into a Nurse’s Day” (GRB, 2024). You will witness how easily a mistake related to patient safety can occur. Nurses bear the responsibility for the life of each patient they are assigned to, every single moment. But if one minor element goes awry, a patient who was prepared to be discharged from the hospital might never get to return home. I invite you to share your insights on the manager’s question in the comments section.

In honor to the Father Figures of the many that grew up without a father. To all that are successful today despite the emptiness you might have faced when your father was not there. To every one successful because your single mother raised you as best as she could. **"Roots Unseen"** In shadows cast by absent suns, A child grows strong, their spirit spun. No father's hand to guide their way, Yet roots unseen hold firm each day. They learn to stand, to walk alone, To find their worth, to build their own. In quiet moments, tears may fall, Yet deep within, they rise, stand tall. For fatherhood transcends mere blood, It's woven in life's tangled flood. The mentors found in friends and kin, The whispered wisdom from within. They honor men who missed their youth, Their legacy, a testament to truth. In strength and grace, they forge ahead, Their hearts, a tapestry finely thread. So here's to those who bear this weight, To resilience born from love's debate. Though paths diverge, they find their way, Roots unseen, forever sway. 🌟

  • As leaders of organizations and teams within said organizations, it’s our responsibility to create and ensure cultures and work environments that prohibit and discourage any degree of bullying. The toxicity that permeates, erodes teams eventually affecting productivity and solidarity. It is up to leadership to protect the teams. 💪🏻!

In toxic organizations, whistleblowing is seen as an attack on the organization when, in fact, it should be seen as an act of courage and trust. The presence of bullying is a risk to any organization's reputation. However, whistleblowers are not the problem, and discrediting or ignoring them will not make the bullying disappear. In fact, for any type of violence, silencing the victim will increase the risk of recidivism. In the case of workplace violence, the employee coming forward is not the source of the problem. Unfortunately, many organizations seem to think so. In many organizations, when targets of bullying come forward, the organization (upper management, HR) gets on a defensive mode, and their goal becomes to protect their reputation. When individuals feel they, or in this case, the organization, are "under attack," they are not open to listening, they cannot be impartial, and their goal becomes to "neutralize the enemy." The problem is that they often " neutralize" the wrong enemy. They punish their "ally" (the victim or whistleblower) and protect the perpetrator. Unfortunately, in these types of organizations, many good managers and HR professionals get influenced and become part of the problem. Their "mission" is to protect the organization's reputation at all costs. This "mission" will influence their thoughts and emotions and direct their actions. In safe environments, whistleblowers are protected, and thorough and unbiased professional investigations are conducted following a complaint. Employees coming forward do so because they trust the system and the organization and care about the well-being of the organization and its employees. Otherwise, they would leave without raising issues. It takes courage to come forward as a whistleblower; unfortunately, instead of being perceived as courageous and honest, whistleblowers are often identified as the problem. The problem is not the person raising awareness about violence; it is the person perpetrating the violence and the system allowing it to continue. Silencing or getting rid of the whistleblower will give more power to perpetrators and increase the risk of bullying and the risk for damage to the organization's reputation and image. This way of dealing with bullying and other unethical behaviors is part of the organization's culture. In a safe work culture, the goal is to protect employees; in a toxic work culture, the goal is to protect the organization. What many leaders need to understand is that by protecting employees, addressing problems at the source, and having the courage to hold bullies accountable, they are also protecting their organization. Bullies are the real threat to the organization's reputation and bottom line, not the employees reporting the bullying. Failing to see the difference will result in actions that will, down the road, be detrimental to the organization and its employees. Take care of yourself and the people around you 💗
