Last year, Essentia Health opened its doors to the new St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota. The hospital aimed to become more efficient and redefine its patient experience with bold, innovative, and sustainable solutions. The striking new building overlooks Lake Superior with a design that is meant to draw from the neighboring town and elements of the lake. As a sign of progressive redevelopment, the hospital will help to financially stimulate the downtown Superior Street area, an underutilized commercial and entertainment hub of Duluth. Prominent features include amenity deck space on multiple levels, accessible plazas, and rooftop gardens with amazing views of the city and the Great Lake. With the harsh elements of the area a Protect Membrane Roof Assembly was the obvious choice to bring these design elements to life. Monolithic Membrane 6125® will keep the building watertight for the life of the structure and over 10,000 square feet of the Garden Roof® Assembly and 12,500 square feet of the Ultimate Assembly® offer patients, healthcare workers, and visitors a place to gather or take a break. Many healthcare organizations are moving toward a more sustainable business model that includes incorporating Vegetated Roofs as part of new hospital construction to offer therapeutic and healing benefits to patients. Studies have shown that patients with a view or physical access to green space recover at a quicker rate than those without such amenities. Hydrotech has been involved in many such projects, check out a few below: Mercy Hospital - Rockford, IL https://lnkd.in/d9KFRMQw Lucile Packard Children's Hospital - Discovery Garden - Palo Alto, CA https://lnkd.in/gGv_v8rY CHOP Ambulatory Care Center - Philadelphia, PA https://lnkd.in/gvcgT_AN #greenroofs #greeninfrastructure #sustainabledesign #sustainableconstruction #architecture #landscapearchitecture #design #construction #waterproofing #roofing

Incredible Work by All American Exterior Solutions on a Remarkable Green Roof Project in Chicago! Designing and implementing a green roof that thrives in the “Windy City” requires expertise and diligent coordination. Given the roof height on this project and exposure to high winds, significant consideration went into coming up with solutions for proper wind design to ensure the long term success of this project. Kudos to the entire design and construction team on making this one a reality.
151 N. Franklin is a 807,000 square foot world class office tower located Downtown Chicago in the North Loop. All American installed the hot fluid applied waterproofing by American Hydrotech, Inc. throughout the project which features a rooftop sky garden and lush green roof, and even includes a beehive that is overseen by a local Chicago beekeeper. The installation on a high rise presents many challenges such as logistics of loading materials and coordination of various complex details. In addition to the roofing system, we also installed air and vapor barrier, metal panels, and external expansion joints throughout the project. https://lnkd.in/gisJJR5w

Homewood Suites Hotel - Savannah, GA was able to add a top floor amenity deck because of the vegetated roof assembly that addressed their stormwater management needs, per the city of Savannah's building code. To achieve the additional floor in the building, the following conditions needed to be met: the green roof must have capacity to absorb at least 1.2 inches of rain, the green roof must have a certain minimum size to achieve the required retention capacity, and the green roof must be maintained by the building owner. Hydrotech’s Garden Roof® Assembly was able to make this possible and we were able to work closely with the design team to meet the challenging and specific requirements. Not only did a large portion of the roof turn green but the building was also able to incorporate a rooftop pool. Seamless transitions from soft scape to hard scape was achieved using our Ultimate Assembly®, which included rockcurb around the vegetation and beautiful natural diamond pedestal pavers. Check out this great drone shot of the vibrant Spoke (1001 W Chicago) mixed-use development located in Chicago’s River West neighborhood. This site was once home to the Gonella Baking Company. The main roof deck of this building, which was completed in Fall 2017, includes a swimming pool, bocce court and great views of the Windy City Skyline. It is also features a Hydrotech Garden Roof® and Ultimate® Assembly, kept watertight by Monolithic Membrane 6125®. Hydrotech is grateful for the role we played in this incredible project! Fulton Market in Chicago's West Loop is a bustling neighborhood known for its popular new restaurants and cafes. The newest addition is the luxury Arthur on Aberdeen apartments at 210 N Aberdeen Street. Part of the site is the historical Arthur Harris building, a steel float manufacturing company that has been operating over 100 years. The restored bow truss building, with 35’ ceilings from the turn of the century, offer an original architectural style that is not easily replicable. The apartment building offers indoor and outdoor fitness spaces, a pool deck, and a sky deck with amazing skyline views. Over 20,000 square feet of Monolithic Membrane 6125® is keeping this building watertight in a Protect Membrane Roofing application. In addition, 4,300 square feet of the Garden Roof Assembly pairs well with the hardscape of the pool and sky deck to make the space more inviting and beautiful.
