Another piece by our senior NTDs technical advisor, Dr. Shyamala Anand, on the ocular NTDs photo database project in Leprosy Review ! Thanks to collaboration with Tropical Data, we were able to develop an ocular leprosy photo database. Now we're working with the ILEP Federation to make this an accessible tool for health workers and program staff. As these symptoms become more rare, resources like this are critical to equip those on the front lines serving people affected. https://lnkd.in/e_SuQS9d

Check out the International Coalition for Trachoma Control latest blog by our senior technical advisor for NTDs, Dr. Shyamala Anand, discussing our ocular #NTDs integration project with the ILEP Federation, collaborating with Tropical Data. The addition of ocular leprosy to the Tropical Data photo database is a first step toward recognizing and integrating ‘ocular’ #NTDs while building a single resource for health workers, program staff, trainers, etc. How are you utilizing #integration to #beatNTDs?
There are three neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) with sight-threatening complications: trachoma, an ocular disease; onchocerciasis, better known as ‘river blindness’, affecting the skin and eyes; and leprosy, which primarily affects the skin, peripheral nerves, and the eyes. As cases of these NTDs become increasingly rare, the use of digital tools and educational resources will soon become crucial for building health workers’ capacity to recognize eye conditions early enough to prevent devastating vision loss. Read our latest opinion piece by Dr Shyamala Anand, which presents a case for integrating ocular NTDs. https://lnkd.in/e3GPFt_Q
