Americans for the Arts stands with the communities in the Southeastern United States affected by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. We understand that the path to recovery—both for individuals and neighborhoods—requires time, strength, and resilience. In the aftermath of this devastation, we must come together as a united community to uplift spirits and bolster recovery efforts. We urge everyone to join us in supporting those impacted by this storm. If you’d like to provide support or need resources in an affected area, visit https://bit.ly/3zKIQS9.

At Americans for the Arts, we believe the arts can heal. For over fifty years, The Health Museum has been sharing essential health information through interactive exhibits and engaging programming. Recently, they launched the Healing Arts Initiative, exploring the intersections of art, medicine, and culture to help our community process health-related experiences. Through workshops and exhibitions, this program has enhanced their capacity for connection and healing, aligning with their vision to empower healthier living through a fusion of art and science. "Healing Hands" reflects the strength and unity found within our community, inspiring visitors to appreciate the universal power of care and connection. The arts have the power to bring people together, creating shared experiences and fostering understanding across different backgrounds. Projects like The Lab, a monthly showcase supported by the Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County, serves as an experimental space for underground and emerging artists to showcase work, develop projects, and find professional opportunities, providing a safe and accessible venue for marginalized creative community members to connect and create together. In fact, 72% of Americans believe that the arts provide these shared experiences, helping us connect across differences, and 63% say the arts help them better understand other cultures in their community. 🤝 ✨ Let’s continue to support the arts in unifying our communities! #Support4Arts #NAHM #TheArtsWithin Photo from DOSE Artist Collective

Resource mobilization is organizing work. Seeding the future of social movement work through values-aligned fundraising, donor organizing, and creative partnerships to drive material change.

On Friday, I had the privilege of supporting MediaJustice x Media 2070 (Free Press) Chicago Black Future Newsstand, a day-long immersive art gallery, invitation to imagine a liberated Black media future, and exploration of the current media conditions reproducing the harms of racial capitalism. This event was part of Race Forward's Cultural Week of Action on Race and Democracy. Thanks to Brandi Collins-Dexter, who spearheaded the idea for Black Future Newsstand in Chicago, to the incredible team at Media 2070, Black River Life, GALLERY GUICHARD (the venue), and to all of the panelists who contributed their expertise. Thanks also to MacArthur Foundation, Americans for the Arts, and UCLA's Center on Race and Digital Justice who brought this event to life as part of MediaJustice's ongoing work exploring the history of Chicago Black media, Chicago's progressive Black movements, and the implications of the current media landscape for organizers, communities, artists, and journalists. 📰 More to come - in the meantime, enjoy the photos 📰

As we close the first week of National Arts and Humanities Month, we are excited to share a major win for #ArtsEd! The U.S. Department of Education has issued a letter of guidance on how federal education dollars can be used for arts education to support a well-rounded education through the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. 👏 🎨 🎒 A special thank you goes out to the arts community across the country who have advocated tirelessly for this guidance. Your efforts have helped make quality arts education more attainable for all.  #NAHM #Support4Arts Learn more: https://bit.ly/3BsZlCy
