About us

Race Forward is a national racial justice organization founded in 1981. We envision a vibrant world in which people of all races create, share and enjoy resources and relationships equitably, unleashing individual potential, embracing collective responsibility and generating global prosperity. We strive to be a leading values-driven social justice enterprise where the culture and commitment created by our multi-racial and diverse staff supports individual and organizational excellence and sustainability. Race Forward advances racial justice through research, media and practice. We bring systemic analysis and an innovative approach to complex race issues to help people take effective action toward racial equity. Race Forward publishes the daily news site Colorlines and presents Facing Race, the country’s largest multiracial annual conference focused on racial justice. We’re proud to collaborate with Habitat for Humanity’s Advancing Black Homeownership Initiative to bring its commitment to building Black intergenerational and community wealth further into the national movement for racial justice. Earlier this month, Race Forward’s President, Glenn Harris, moderated a symposium on housing and racial justice at the Carter Work Project in St. Paul. Highlights include: • Dr. Andre Perry from the The Brookings Institution shared his research on the devaluation of Black property and methods for measuring Black community well-being as well as wealth. • Bukata Hayes from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota described the actions they are taking after having declared racism a public health crisis. • Natosha Reid Rice explained how Habitat’s racial equity work takes inspiration from its founding as a racially integrated land cooperative in Georgia during the civil rights era. • Tawkiyah Jordan challenged us to see housing justice as a racial justice issue and take risks as Habitat continues to invest in Black communities. • Daniel Gura explained how Habitat Capital develops innovative financial services that consider the multi-generational, broader community benefits to underwrite investments in Black homeownership.

Project 2025 poses a profound authoritarian threat to democratic governance and our vision of a just, equitable, and multi-racial democracy. It seeks to dismantle the core democratic functions of public administration and potentially weaponize federal agencies against marginalized communities. This could have disastrous consequences for communities of color, workers, immigrants, middle- and working-class families, women, and LGBTQ+ people. This toolkit shares strategies that can help block Project 2025’s power grab. This toolkit offers strategies to: • Resist potential authoritarian takeover attempts • Block efforts to undermine democratic institutions • Address long-term injustices that fuel authoritarianism • Transform public administration into a force for equity and justice • Review recent progress and build on successful initiatives Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gayTNtHi
