This Pre-K through 12th grade division serves a diverse population of over 3900 students and 700 employees. It consists of one comprehensive, four year high school that offers college preparatory, general and special education, as well as career and technical cooperative education courses. It has two middle schools that provide students courses for career pathways and advanced curriculum, along with six elementary schools focused on building the foundational skills needed for success. Additionally, Amherst Education Center provides an alternative program for struggling students, a GED program, and an Alternative to Suspension program to support increased student behavioral success. Academic performance in the areas of reading and math across the division are strong. Over the past two school years, ACPS has achieved fully accredited status through the Virginia Department of Education. With all schools fully accredited, our focus of Every Child, Every Day is more than just a motto; it is the belief system that makes Amherst County Public Schools one of the top school systems in the region.

  • Kelly Holmes is beginning his 31st year in education with 25 of those as an administrator. He has served ACPS as a teacher, coach, transportation supervisor, assistant principal and principal. Kelly is excited to have the opportunity to be a part of Monelison Middle School and is dedicated to building positive relationships and serving the needs of the students and staff. #TeamAmherst

  • Mary Allison Fitzgerald is an Amherst County native who comes from a long line of educators. She was a classroom teacher for 25 years in both elementary and middle school classrooms. She’s had many opportunities to serve in a variety of leadership capacities, including most recently Lead Mentor Teacher, English Department Chair, and ATSS Coach at AMS. She is passionate about the opportunities that education offers to the children of Amherst County and looks forward to her new role at AMS! #TeamAmherst

  • Heidi Curd has 12 years of educational experience with Amherst County Public Schools. She has worked at ACHS, TES, and EES as a school counselor, served on the ACPS ATSS and ShowUpAmherst teams, and was most recently the School and Community Engagement Specialist for the division. Mrs. Curd is passionate about Amherst County and supporting students, families and educators. She is excited to SOAR with the Eagles of Elon Elementary! #TeamAmherst

  • Have you heard? AES is now going to have an assistant principal! Angela Pinn began her career as an Instructional Assistant at AES. She then went on to be a Special Education teacher at Prince Edward Elementary School and Madison Heights Elementary. Next, she transitioned into administration serving as the Dean of Students for Monelison Middle School and as Assistant Principal for Madison Heights Elementary and Central Elementary. She’s excited to be heading back to where her career began! #TeamAmherst

  • Dr. Nogueras will be joining the admin team at Central Elementary as the Assistant Principal! Over the last two years, Dr. Nogueras has served as an assistant principal at Amherst County High School. She began her teaching career as a Spanish teacher at Heritage High School, later serving as the summer school principal at Sheffield Elementary, and then the Dean of Students at ACHS. Dr. Nogueras also serves as an adjunct professor at Liberty University. Let’s welcome her to CES! #TeamAmherst

Mrs. Young has been with ACPS for 22 years and has taught at PVES and CES. She has served in administration at MMS and EES.
