The AMMnet Board welcomes Nadège Sonhafouo-Chiana to the Board. Congratulations Nadege on your election to the AMMnet Board! Nadège is a Medical Entomologist at OCEAC, with expertise in mosquito borne disease, vector control and vector bionomic. She is one of the key founders of AMMnet's regional chapter in Cameroon, where she serves as Principal Secretary and Communications Officer. She has also been one of the founding member of the regional chapter of PAMCA in Cameroon for over 5 years, where she is in charge of communication and logistics. As a Board member, Nadège plans to contribute to the evolution of the AMMnet vision by participating and providing key inputs to guide and direct AMMnet strategic decisions to better meet the needs and expectations of our community and thus, make a significant contribution to malaria control and elimination globally. In this way, she would like to help break down barriers, build capacity, facilitate collaboration between researchers, modellers, policy makers and stakeholders to address malaria challenges in order to improve targeted intervention strategies through analytical innovations. The AMMnet Board would like to thank outgoing Board member Manuela Runge (MMGH Consulting and Northwestern University, Switzerland) for her service on the Board. A founding member of AMMnet, Manuela led the development of AMMnet’s guidance document for engaging with partners and has been a critical component of designing and maintaining our social media presence.

A new study from Swiss TPH and the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) reveals how climate change and urbanisation are reshaping malaria risk in Kenya. The study, published today in the International Journal of Health Geographics, shows a promising decline in overall malaria prevalence. However, in northern Kenya, malaria cases surged. Using advanced geostatistical models, the study highlights how rising temperatures and rainfall create ideal conditions for malaria to spread. Together with socio-economic changes, these climatic factors may have contributed to the rise in malaria cases in some areas. The findings emphasize the need for targeted, region-specific malaria strategies that account for seasonal and climate differences. Alarming new data from The Kids Research Institute Australia paints a worrying picture of the global #malaria crisis, highlighting the urgent need for increased funding to prevent a surge in cases and deaths. Modelling by the Malaria Atlas Project (MAP) team, led by Professor Peter Gething - Professor in Epidemiology at The Kids Research Institute Australia and Curtin University - and Dr Tasmin Symons, with contributions from Professor Nick Golding, shows even at current funding levels there could be an additional 112 million malaria cases and 280,000 deaths over the 2027-2029 period. Pregnant women and children are particularly vulnerable. A funding cut could worsen this to 137.2 million cases and 337,000 deaths worldwide. The research was presented at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly last month. Visit https://lnkd.in/gFEiHdif for more information. #TheKidsResearchInstituteAustralia | #TheKids | #UNGA79

In an interview with Forecasting Healthy Futures, mathematical modeler and statistician Dr. Sheetal Silal discusses the role of infectious disease modeling in #malaria elimination efforts. 🦟 “The goal is that this isn’t just about math and malaria and computer science. It’s about broadening into all types of vector biology, entomology, climate science, and economics. It's quite multidisciplinary, but our work is a model for bringing experts together,” said Dr. Silal. As #climatechange continues to influence malaria transmission patterns, these insights become increasingly crucial for effective public health response to help anticipate challenges and adapt strategies for malaria control and elimination. 💡 Learn more in our new blog: https://lnkd.in/eNNZGdGP #DiseaseModeling #ClimateHealth
