At Ancestry, bringing family history to life is in our DNA. Helping our customers make new discoveries is what unites us, inspires us, and drives us. We know the impact these discoveries can have because we experience them too! This Family History Month, we asked our employees to share the discoveries they’ve made with Ancestry. What discoveries have you made? Jenny Ashcraft, Senior Content Marketing Copywriter at Ancestry shared - “I was able to identify a soldier in a Civil War photo and shared it with one of his descendants I found on Ancestry. That person then identified another person in the photo, and we soon realized we shared the same 5th great-grandfather. I suddenly had dozens of people to add to my tree, and a new friend on Ancestry." #FamilyHistoryMonth #FamilyHistory #WeAreAncestry #Wearethecurious

Meet our Employees who are Making History - Jason Reeve, Head of Content & Community for Australia & New Zealand What I do at Ancestry: I get to work closely with archives, registry offices, genealogical societies & community organizations to acquire historical records for the Ancestry website. Alongside that important task, I also frequently engage in community events, manage ambassadors, and act as the spokesperson for the AU & NZ market – appearing on productions such as Who Do You Think You Are, Every Family Has a Secret, and various other national television programs. What I love about my job: There’s a profound feeling of accomplishment when you discover a previously buried historical collection and bring it back into the light of day. Through the acquisition & publishing process, the wonderful content team will take a valuable collection that is in an original and potentially at-risk state, then preserve, digitize and make accessible the records that are contained within. How could you not love to be a part of that! Why Ancestry?: It is the very real-world impact we have on the lives of our customers. Rarely a day goes by that I don’t hear a story of an impactful historical discovery, or a current family connection made possible through Ancestry. Curious about Ancestry? Using its billions of historical records and public family trees, Ancestry discovered that entertainment powerhouse Dolly Parton and her goddaughter Miley Cyrus are actually related! Parton might sometimes be referred to as "Aunt Dolly" or "Miley's fairy godmother," but in reality, Ancestry found that the two "Jolene" singers share a common ancestor from Tennessee - Dolly's 6th great-grandfather and Miley's 7th great-grandfather - making them seventh cousins, once removed.
In an Iconic Twist, Miley Cyrus Is *Actually* Related to Godmother Dolly Parton
