About us

The Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders is a nationally recognized school focused on leadership, college readiness, project-based learning and STEM. Our emphasis on college-bound programming, college visits and advising helps each ARS student find her best college fit, and 65% of our students will be the first in their families to graduate from college. Further, with 100% of students engaged in STEM curriculum, we are preparing our girls to become leaders in careers where women are traditionally under-represented. The majority of our students come from Title I schools and/or qualify for free and reduced meals, an indicator for being economically disadvantaged. The ripple effect of them attending and graduating from college is the ability for many of our students to lift their families out of poverty and significantly change the course of their lives. The Ann Richards School Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on ensuring Ann Richards School students gain the confidence and skills to apply, attend and graduate from college. We secure funds and partnerships for school enrichment programming: STEM curriculum, college visits and advising, educational field trips, teacher professional development and alumnae support. The Foundation helps Ann Richards School students achieve their dreams, regardless of socioeconomic barriers.

  • Last Thursday, twenty of our Star seniors joined the Mission 44 team for the Austin Grand Prix - STEM Inspiration Day out at the Circuit of The Americas. In partnership with F1, Hot Wheels, Pirelli, and the Austin Community College Make It Center, our students met industry professionals, explored potential career paths that involve STEM in motorsport, and participated in building a toy model F1 car. Our Stars even had the opportunity to meet Lewis Hamilton, founder of Mission 44. It was an amazing day and we are so thankful for Mission 44 for connecting our Stars with these partnerships that allow our students this next-level opportunity. #ARSpride

🇺🇲 Yesterday, we welcomed 50 young people from Austin to Circuit of The Americas, for a behind-the-scenes look into the exciting world of STEM and motorsport. The day started with the group designing their own Formula 1 cars, and a special visit from Mission 44 founder, Lewis Hamilton, who checked out their creations and shared some words of inspiration 💥 Next, we headed trackside to explore the F1 paddock and Pirelli tyre fitting zone, before taking part in a track-building challenge at Hot Wheels' ‘Challenge Accepted’ workshop. Thank you to all our partners who helped make it such an incredible day 💜 Ann Richards School Foundation, Code2College and Make It Center ACC Find out more about the event: https://lnkd.in/dYTWH42X

  • Ms. Blackburn's 7th-grade Stars are taking advantage of a hands-on learning opportunity by designing and building an 18-hole mini golf course. The process started with a design consultation with architects Mike Vermeeren and Sarah Shearer, AIA, NCARB from Cushing Terrell – who are helping Ms. Blackburn's students throughout the project with their design, engineering, and building skills to construct the mini golf holes. Ms. Blackburn's students are applying the principles they learned from the initial consult with Cushing Terrell to design a digital 3D rendering of the mini golf hole with Tinkercad software. The next step in the process involves our Stars using software to laser cut their designs, turning their ideas into reality. Speaking of ideas, our 7th graders HAVE PLANS. Design highlights include a hole that looks like Palo Duro Canyon and another one featuring an obstacle shaped like the Hook'em hand gesture for our Longhorn fans. We want you to be part of this excitement! Join our 7th-grade Stars on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 2 p.m. on the campus of the Ann Richards School for the Inaugural ARS Classic. The ARS Classic showcases the 18-hole mini golf course designed and built by our 7th graders in the Ann Richards School's state-of-the-art MakerSpace. • Yesterday, our Mission Monday theme was college, and a few Star alumni joined us on campus for a special Q&A with our current Stars. Class of 2015 alum and current Foundation Board member, Georgia Hernandez, Class of 2019 alum, Litzy Santana, and Class of 2023 alum, Aliyah Morales Serrano, met with our current seniors, juniors, and sophomores for an in-depth conversation about picking a college, finding funding for school, and connecting with your community. These amazing conversations helped many of our current seniors with hearing from someone that experienced a similar situation when trying to find the right college fit. #ARSpride
