Key data points highlight distinct user demographics and usage patterns for Expedia and Uber. Both platforms experience their highest usage among individuals with incomes ranging from $20,000 to $49,999, with Uber at 37.15% and Expedia at 33.14%. However, Expedia attracts a higher proportion of affluent users, particularly those earning $90,000 or more, accounting for 25% of users in our dataset. This likely stems from the nature of Expedia’s offerings, which include flights, hotels, and vacation packages—substantial transactions that require longer planning horizons. Conversely, Uber appeals primarily to lower-income users, especially those earning below $50,000, and is predominantly used for on-demand local transportation through smaller, more frequent transactions. Notably, Uber’s presence diminishes significantly to just 5.42% among users in the $150,000+ income bracket, while Expedia maintains a steadier share at 9.75%. This data suggests that there is potential for Uber to expand its market share, as well as opportunities to enhance engagement and lifetime value for the overlapping demographic through product integrations and improvements.
