Douglas Development and Antunovich Associates collaborated on an exciting mixed-use project at 1900 Half Street SE, in the Southeast Waterfront district of Washington, D.C. The Watermark site was home to an 11-story office building of roughly 700,000 total gross square feet and stands along the banks of the Anacostia River in what used to be a commercial/industrial area but is quickly evolving into a vibrant entertainment /mixed-use riverfront community. The new D.C. United soccer stadium and retail project, combined with a proposed extension to the river walk to go along with the proposed pedestrian bridge immediately to the East, will transform the neighborhood over the next ten years. Douglas Development supplemented this improvement by converting this office building into a 600,000-square-foot mixed-use retail/residential building.

The Master Plan for the Market Common Myrtle Beach includes special design attention to the public realm of the "urban village," namely streets, parks, open spaces, and amenities. The open spaces provide activity centers within neighborhoods throughout the development. Careful attention has been directed to the design of the landscape throughout the site. Mature planted street trees and other plant materials greatly enhance the quality of the natural environment. Congratulations to the Lincoln Common on winning the 2024 Urban Land Institute Americas Awards for Excellence! This Mixed-Use development is located on the 6-acre site of the former Children's Memorial Hospital in Lincoln Park. Our team participated in over 70 community meetings to ensure the design process was collaborative and prioritized the things the community wanted. The master plan is comprised of new and old buildings, making sure the charm of Lincoln Park is seen throughout. Antunovich Associates designed the retail, office, senior living, and condominium buildings, ensuring attention to detail was given to the aesthetic and density the neighborhood deserved. The Orange-rated 2358 North Lincoln facade was documented and reconstructed by our team, brick by brick. Belmont Village Senior Living Lincoln Park's exterior was designed to resemble the historic Nellie Black building that previously resided on the site. The brick used was a modified Norman brick that provided the look of a Flemish bond but was installed with a more standard running-bond-like pattern that allowed for easier and quicker installation. While the newly built 32-unit condominium building, The Orchard, was designed to resemble a historic Greystone home. All of these details, historic and new, help make the Lincoln Common everything it is. Congratulations to all of our partners on this marvelous honor: McCaffery, Hines, W.E. O'Neil Construction, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) 📸: Dave Burk

Patrick Cusack is a Principal in our Architecture Studio at our Chicago Office. He is celebrating his fifteenth anniversary at Antunovich Associates! Did you know that Patrick started as an Intern while working towards his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign? Patrick is tasked with responsibilities for overall project planning and design. He provides leadership across a broad range of design practices, with experience in the planning of large-scale mixed-use retail and residential projects, the design of low and mid-rise residential projects, office, hospitality, and institutional buildings, as well as investigating development alternatives regarding entitlements and local zoning practices. The input of community groups and other public stakeholders is critical to the success of these projects, and he has distinguished himself with an ability to drive collaboration in the public setting, developing design concepts that meet our diverse client’s needs. Most recently, Patrick worked on the recently completed Multi-Family Residential building, The Jasper, with our friends at The Beach Company.
