To make all children ready for life through individualized education, therapeutic services, and nursing care.
About us
Our 501c3, a nonprofit corporation, was established in 2006. Apparo means "to make ready" and that is our mission. We want to make all children ready for the next stage of life by offering them an individualized education, a range of therapeutic services and full-time nursing care. In addition to the children, we are also getting parents, therapists, and teachers ready by providing educational opportunities on a variety of topics, including how to navigate the educational and medical systems.

Communication is key in everything that happens at Apparo Academy. Professionals instruct children on proper technique, therapy students learn from pros how it’s done, and therapists talking and listen with patients about their success and achievement. #MakingChildrenReady #Therapy #Teaching

Apparo Academy is a partner of GEEARS: Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students advocating for children in Georgia. Autumn is here with brisk weather, cozy sweaters, and good old football Sundays. Would you like to have lunch with a football legend? GEEARS’ Annual Luncheon on November 21st allows you to support our work for Georgia’s youngest children and get your fandom on when our headliner, former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, speaks about his evolution from athlete to advocate. In addition to Ryan’s inspiring remarks (complete with a private Q&A and photo op for attendees who sponsor the event or join the host committee), GEEARS will honor three early childhood heroes and hear from leaders like our Executive Director, Mindy Koplon Binderman and Board Chair, Stephanie Blank Another cool feature is the luncheon’s setting overlooks the elephant habitat at Zoo Atlanta. We hope you’ll jump on this opportunity today and reserve your seat. #MakingChildrenReady #GEEARS #AdvocatingForChildren. https://lnkd.in/gMrwWdiX

Fall is a wonderful time to get creative in the Apparo Academy classroom & kitchen with little ones! One simple and rewarding recipe to make with preschoolers is pumpkin bread. Not only does it fill the room with that cozy autumn scent, but it’s also a great way to introduce them to baking. Here’s how the Cockatoos participated in the process while sneaking in a little math, sensory fun, and patience-building along the way: Flour – Measure out the all-purpose flour together. Let your preschooler feel the soft texture as they help pour it into the bowl. It’s a great opportunity to introduce them to measuring cups and discuss quantities. Sugar – Explain how sugar not only sweetens the bread but also keeps it moist. Have your little helper mix the sugar into the flour. They’ll love using a spoon to stir! Baking soda and baking powder – These magic ingredients make the bread rise! Let the kids sprinkle them into the mix, showing how they help the bread puff up in the oven. Spices – Talk about how these spices create the yummy smell we all associate with fall. Let your preschooler take a sniff of each one before adding it in. It’s a wonderful way to engage their senses. Salt – A pinch of salt balances out the sweetness. Show them how just a little bit can make a big difference in taste. Eggs – Crack open the eggs (maybe a fun job for you!) and let your little one gently whisk them. Explain how eggs help the bread rise and hold together. Oil – Using a light oil keeps the bread moist without making it too heavy. Let your preschooler pour the oil in and mix it all together. Pumpkin puree – This is the star ingredient! Make sure to get pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie mix. If you’re using homemade puree, ensure it’s drained well. Let the kids take turns scooping the pumpkin into the bowl, and talk about how pumpkins grow and how this puree makes the bread taste special. Once everything is mixed together, pour the batter into a loaf pan and let your preschoolers help by carefully smoothing the top. As the bread bakes, they’ll be excited to see it rise and enjoy the delicious smell filling the kitchen. It’s a great lesson in patience as they wait for their homemade treat! Pumpkin bread is not only a delicious snack, but it’s also a wonderful hands-on way to bond with your preschoolers this fall! Enjoy the process—and the tasty result! #makingchildrenready #fall #pumpkinpatch

Visual-spatial skills are all about understanding how objects fit and relate to each other in space. It’s important for things like knowing where to put your body, seeing how shapes fit together, or even understanding where letters go when writing. These skills help your child learn to use their eyes and hands together, which will be important later for handwriting and other tasks. When our OTs ask your preschooler to draw a pumpkin, we’re helping them practice these skills in a fun way. Drawing the pumpkin helps them figure out where to place the different parts (like the stem at the top, the round body in the middle, and the lines that go on the sides). They’re learning how to judge the space between the parts of the pumpkin and how everything fits together. It’s not just about drawing—it’s helping their brain understand how objects are arranged in space, which will help them with everything from writing to playing sports! #MakingChildrenReady #OccupationalTherapy #VisualSpatial
