At Apprenti, we not only create alternative pathways to access tech talent and help organizations address digital skills shortages, we provide economic mobility to underrepresented groups by identifying, training, and placing diverse talent in tech careers. As the first nationally registered tech apprenticeship program, Apprenti provides a proven, reliable pipeline for connecting underrepresented groups including people of color, women, veterans, and people with disabilities to the necessary training and hands-on skills needed to be successful in the tech industry. Apprenti is a program of the Washington Technology Industry Association (WTIA) Workforce Institute. October is National Disability Employment Awareness month. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities is 9.1% versus 4.3% for people without disabilities. Creating a diverse workplace can help foster creative solutions. Apprenti is an organization that seeks to fill the tech talent skill and diversity gap through apprenticeship. Over 90% of Apprenti’s apprentices come from underrepresented groups including women, people of color, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. Apprenti redesigned its apprenticeship process to support the 15% of apprentices with a disability and ensure an equitable experience for all participants.
