💔 The opioid epidemic has entered a deadly “fourth wave,” but that’s just the beginning of the crisis. Over 48 million Americans are living with some form of substance use disorder (SUD). For many, complex treatment plans with multiple medications are the key to managing their addiction and living a functional life. But SUD treatment is complicated by several factors: 🔄 Many SUD patients also have multiple chronic conditions, often taking 5-10+ prescriptions at once. This increases the risk of adverse, sometimes deadly, drug interactions. ❓Doctors may face the difficult decision to reduce or eliminate medications, balancing the risks of polypharmacy against the chance of relapse. 💊 SUD patients are less likely to take their meds as directed, leading doctors to raise dosages unnecessarily — sometimes with dangerous consequences. Now more than ever, clinicians treating patients with SUD need additional support to manage complex medication regimens and reduce the risk of error for these high-risk patients. #OpioidCrisis #AddictionTreatment #SUD #MedicationSafety #HealthcareInnovation https://lnkd.in/ez6f9jRf

The White House recently secured lower #Medicare prices for 10 blockbuster drugs including Januvia and Imbruvica, saving nearly $6 billion annually! Yet, there’s an even bigger opportunity to reduce healthcare spend hiding in plain sight. 🕵️ Medication mismanagement costs the U.S. #healthcare system $528 billion and causes 275,000 deaths each year. 🤯 This issue goes far beyond numbers. It's about errors in prescriptions, incorrect dosing, and drug interactions — often leading to adverse outcomes that are entirely avoidable. With Medicare covering 50 million seniors, most of whom manage multiple chronic conditions, the stakes couldn't be higher. Every new medication increases the risk of falls, hospitalizations, and failed drug interactions. With Arine, we have an incredible opportunity to reduce this burden and improve care. #HealthcareInnovation #MedicationSafety #PatientCare #HealthTech #ValueBasedCare #MedicationManagement

We are incredibly proud of our co-founder, Yoona Kim, for her dedication to transforming healthcare and improving patient safety. At Arine, our platform identifies safer and more effective medication regimens, addressing a critical need that drives better outcomes and improves total cost of care. Yoona Kim, 44, wanted to help people access health care. That desire led her down a compounding path--from an early career analyzing health care cost trends, to pharmacy school, and then to a PhD program in health economics. Eventually, she encountered an important, solvable problem: Millions of people are prescribed suboptimal--and often dangerous--medications each year. So in 2017, Kim and CTO Penjit "Boom" Moorhead co-founded Arine. The platform, powered by AI, recommends safer, more effective medication regimens. It's grown by illuminating the shadowy side of the $1 trillion U.S. pharmaceutical industry. Learn more about how she harnessed the power of AI to develop a groundbreaking solution. https://lnkd.in/eBKg6jGZ #Inc5000 (As told to Rebecca Deczynski)
