Many thanks to Volunteer Arlington for hosting another inspiring 'Arlington Cares' event celebrating the spirit of volunteering in our community. We are grateful to all of our #volunteers, but the folks in this picture have gone above and beyond in serving AFAC! #afacfeeds #volunteer4afac

Summer vacation for many means enjoying the warm weather and making memories with your loved ones. For families receiving food assistance from the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC), it can be a time of increased uncertainty. When the school year ends, children lose access to the crucial school-sponsored #breakfast and #lunch programs that they rely on during the school year. More than ever, AFAC’s families need your support to ensure they can rely on our services for dignified access to nutritious groceries throughout the summer. Make a contribution today and join our #EndSummerHunger food and fund drive to help provide vital resources to AFAC’s families struggling to make ends meet this summer. You can have confidence that your gift will truly support those in need in our community. Together, we can ensure that AFAC families receive the food they need all summer long. We are looking for strong and reliable help for a brief amount of time on Sundays at the Columbia Pike #FarmersMarket! You would arrive at the market no later than 12:45 and greet the AFAC van and their helper. You would unload crates and deliver them to vendors to see if they have excess produce to donate. When the market closes at 1:00, you would help collect the donations and load the bins onto the van. You would most likely be done by 1:30. The market takes place until the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving - we are looking for three individuals (you must be at least 14) who can commit to being there most Sundays (we understand illness/travel/other obligations). This would be a great opportunity for those that live nearby since it's not a long time commitment! Email us at volunteer@afac.org for more details. #afacfeeds #volunteer4afac #fooddrive

We are your biggest #fans! On Sunday, June 9, we held a small Volunteer Recognition Program to celebrate the dedication of our many volunteers and to hand out our Volunteer of the Year awards. This year, we were pleased to announce the recognition of several #volunteers who have gone above and beyond in the furtherance of AFAC’s mission: Teen Volunteer of the Year: Kaylee Rojas-Duran Volunteer Group of the Year: 50+ Active, Fun, Fitness and Friends Volunteer of the Year: Hal Creel In addition, we honored volunteers who are retiring from their service as well as those who have volunteered for 5, 10, 15, 25, and 35 years. Thank you to The Dulcetones for providing the lovely music for the evening. Click the link to see the full photo album! https://lnkd.in/ebWSXGvZ #afacfeeds #volunteer4afac #volunteer

We are grateful for the help of our three #senior experience students from Arlington Public Schools these last few weeks. We were joined by: Maryam, who is graduating from Washington-Liberty High School and will attend William & Mary in the fall. Maryam was our PRIME Intern via APS last summer. Her favorite activity so far has been packing for our #homedelivery clients. Julia, who is graduating from Yorktown High school and will also attend William & Mary. Paul, who is also graduating from Yorktown and will be attending Indiana University. He and Julia have decided that driving the home delivery bags to our clients is their favorite task. We wish them the very best in their next chapter! #afacfeeds #volunteer4afac

At 11:15 a.m. on June 5, 2024, AFAC recognized a monumental milestone: serving a record-breaking two-million family visits. For 35 years, AFAC has been committed to feeding every neighbor in need who comes to our doors. This would not have been possible without the dedication of our AFAC staff members, #volunteers, #donors, and community partners, who are the backbone of our mission. We are so grateful for the support of our community in fighting hunger. Together, we can continue fulfilling our mission of providing dignified access to groceries to all of our neighbors in need. #afacfeeds #volunteer #volunteer4afac #fooddrive

We are looking for a few #volunteers who can help at our Waypoint Distribution on Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00 pm! The partner agency is responsible for volunteer recruitment, but we are assisting them to boost their crew (so technically, you would not be volunteering for AFAC, but at an AFAC distribution). You'd need to be friendly, reliable, and helpful. If you're interested in this long-term opportunity, please email volunteer@afac.org and we'll put you in touch with the partner agency. #afacfeeds #volunteer4afac

We're looking for a STRONG and reliable person to help with our home delivery packings on Wednesdays as a long-term substitute from the end of June through the end of July. This volunteer role involves working Wednesday afternoons from approximately 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. The role requires being on your feet and repeatedly lifting crates full of canned goods to place them on shelves. To ensure you are able, we recommend trying out the role for a week prior to committing to the task for more than a month. Interested? Email volunteer@afac.org
