📸 It’s World Photography Day! 📸 So we’re focusing our lens on model and Artis resident Sanora of Yorktown Heights, NY, aka “Miss Subways” January-March 1964 – the nation's first integrated beauty contest, with winners professionally photographed by the country's top modeling agency and displayed in NYC subways. More than just a pretty face, Sanora’s bona fides include first-grade teacher, social services agency manager, antique dealer, classical pianist, and painter. Today at Artis, Sanora continues to spread beauty, joy and kindness. A social butterfly and helper by nature, she is on the party committee and loves assisting associates with preparations. She also enjoys music and art enrichment programs, and takes full advantage of her community’s outdoor spaces. National Culinary Arts Month is in full swing. 🧑🍳 So we’d like you to meet one of Artis’s remarkable chefs – Jorge N. Cambre, Director of Culinary Services at Artis of Chestnut Ridge in New York. Jorge earned his degree from Florida Culinary Institute, and owned a high-end restaurant, Casa del Sol in Miami, for 20 years. He has been with Artis for three years, where residents love his “Around-the-World” destination dinners, cooking classes and homemade pizza. When he’s not pleasing residents’ palates at Artis, Jorge volunteers at Endeavor 21+ Foundation, an organization that offers adults of all abilities the chance to deepen their artistic and practical abilities. “I have always been drawn to older people because of their wisdom, and what they bring to the table,” said Jorge. “I know can learn something from them. I want to understand them. “I know I can come to work every day and make a difference, and make our residents’ days more enjoyable,” he added. “I like to make our residents smile.
