What my daughter taught me this weekend about Mindset, Confidence, and skiing black diamonds! ♦ ❄ Here we are, beautiful blue bird day in Lake Tahoe at Northstar! My daughter, Sydney, with a lofty goal of not just skiing a Black Diamond, but becoming a Black Diamond skier - Big difference... 👇 Check this out: We hit the first one ♦. She's nervous and I'm in Dad/Ski Instructor/Mindset/You've got this/Coach/Dad mode... We get through the fear and she crushes it! Same run again. Less but still nervous. Better. Crush it! Repeat. Then....we go to a new black diamond run... She's nervous forgetting that she just conquered the last 3. Why? Because, although similar pitch, it's different...it's new again. We talk about the run, plan our line, and I ask her, "what's different about this one versus the last ones you just skied?" She said, "well, nothing...it's the same run just a different name... ok, I got this. Thanks Dad!" 🔥 ♦ And there it was!!! Her mindset shift immediately changed her belief from "I can't" to "I can..." It doesn't mean she wasn't nervous, however now her mindset is rooted in the belief that she's been here before, was successful, therefore she knows how to proceed again regardless of "different." We'll both always remember this moment.
