What happens when you combine urgent + emergent care under one (freestanding) roof? Supposedly, this hybrid approach offers benefits to patients, payers, and providers, so we took a hard look at the model and the numbers, including revenue and utilization impacts for a real-world client. We found plenty to like with this #HealthcareInnovation – and plenty of reason to proceed with caution. https://lnkd.in/ebKEktr2

Officials in Martin County, NC, have been both strategic and relentless in their efforts to resurrect Martin General Hospital as a Rural Emergency Hospital -- and we're glad to see that KFF Health News is taking notice. Our work with the county is far from done, but we're hopeful for a happy ending to this particular story.

Our founder is back in the news, talking about hospital bed expansion in Wake County, NC. #certificateofneed
I enjoyed talking to the Durham ABC affiliate yesterday about new hospital beds in Wake County, including a proposed new 50-bed hospital for UNC Health Rex in Wake Forest. The Mayor is enthusiastic about the project proposed for her community. (Great reporting by Tom George!) https://lnkd.in/eF5_PvyM

UnitedHealthcare has just published a list of roughly 600 procedures that no longer require prior authorization for providers with "Gold Card" status. (See Comments section for link.) CMS has taken the unusual step of introducing a *mandatory* new payment model that covers about 1/4 of the US starting in 2026. For some reason, the agency never published a list of exactly which Census areas will be included, so we combed through 3,000 pages of regulatory language to get an answer.

As a mission-driven founder, I was impressed recently when one of our vendors asked us to donate his entire invoice to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Was it worth the minor bookkeeping hassle? Absolutely! Good people using their talents to do good things -- I think that what it's all about. #purpose

30 years after Congress attempted to save rural healthcare by creating Critical Access Hospitals, the model seems to be on life support. In our exclusive new analysis, Gregory Flicek, MBA, CPA finds that nearly 400 CAHs have an operating loss of -10% or more, putting them at severe risk of closure. We explore 2 likely scenarios for keeping the doors open 👇
