Breaking new ground in Hampton Roads! On Nov. 20, Sentara Leigh Hospital became the region’s first hospital to earn Magnet with Distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, recognizing outstanding nursing excellence and collaboration. Joanne Inman, president of Sentara Leigh Hospital, celebrated with employees and said, “I continue to learn from each and every one of you. What this distinction represents, not just for nursing but our entire organization, humbles me, and I just loved being part of the survey this year.” This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and innovative spirit of the entire fami-Leigh team. After 21 years of service as a U.S. Army combat medic and three deployments, Sergeant 1st Class Lucas White transitioned to a civilian career with the help of the Pentagon’s SkillBridge program and Sentara Health Plans. White’s military experience, as well as his project management certification, made him a perfect fit for our Clinical Vendor Performance and Oversight team. At Sentara, we’re committed to helping service members transition seamlessly to meaningful civilian careers. Programs like SkillBridge, Virginia Values Veterans, and Military Medics and Corpsmen are just a few ways we support veterans. "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’'' - Martin Luther King Jr. As healthcare workers, this quote embodies much of the work we do every day. At Sentara, our colleagues give their time and talents every day in care and service to our consumers—the patients, members, and communities we serve. Today, Jan. 20, our nation celebrates the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. on what would have been his 96th birthday. According to the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change (The King Center), this year marks the 40th official celebration of Dr. King’s life, and this year’s theme is “Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice, and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence 365.” This theme embodies Dr. King’s dedication to justice and equality, with a focus on nonviolent action. To recognize this important moment in history, we proudly sponsored numerous events and activities this month throughout the communities we serve in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, including the Virginia Peninsula Education Foundation's 42nd Annual MLK Community Scholarship Breakfast, the Urban League of Hampton Roads Martin Luther King Jr. Community Leadership Awards, Virginia Union University's 47th Annual MLK Community Leaders Breakfast, and many more. At Sentara, we are proud to honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., whose commitment to serving others has made a lasting difference in our country’s history and the lives of many. #MLKDay #Service #ImprovingHealth #SentaraProud

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is leading the way in innovation with its new BloodTrack blood storage systems, now piloting at the hospital. This advanced technology places blood products closer to the patient bedside, allowing clinicians to deliver life-saving transfusions more quickly, accurately, and safely. With SNGH conducting over 2,250 transfusions monthly, this program represents the future of patient care—and highlights the critical need for blood donations. January is Blood Donor Month, a time to honor donors and encourage others to give. “One donation can save up to three lives,” said Ian Noga, vice president of laboratory services.
