The Union Cabinet has approved a proposal for holding simultaneous elections across India, as recommended by a high-level committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, while addressing the media, explained that the simultaneous elections will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will involve holding Lok Sabha and Assembly elections at the same time, while the second phase will focus on local body elections, which will be held within 100 days of the general elections. The Kovind committee submitted its report to the government in March, just before the announcement of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It proposed a "one-time transitory measure" that would allow the government to select an "appointed date" right after the Lok Sabha elections. After this date, all state assemblies scheduled to go to the polls would have their terms expire simultaneously with the Parliament. This would align the election cycles of the central and state governments, thereby reintroducing the concept of simultaneous elections. To prevent disruption in synchronizing elections due to premature dissolutions of Parliament or state assemblies—whether from no-confidence motions, hung houses, or other events—the committee recommended that new elections be held only for the "unexpired term," or the remaining duration, until the next simultaneous election cycle. Subsequently, municipality and panchayat elections should occur within 100 days of the Lok Sabha and state elections. Despite the BJP’s reduced number of seats in the Lok Sabha, the ruling NDA government has consistently affirmed its commitment to implementing simultaneous elections, which would necessitate constitutional amendments. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated this plan during a press conference, where he emphasized that the "one nation, one election" initiative would be carried out during the current term of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government. #election #onenationoneelection #pmmodi #government #cabinet #politics #BJP #congress #newbill #parliament #news #recentupdates #newsupdate #Aslikahani #explorepage #reels #Instagramreels

Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly suggested that Russians use their lunch and coffee breaks at work to engage in procreation, as part of efforts to address the country’s declining birth rate. According to Metro, this directive comes as Russia grapples with a fertility rate of around 1.5 children per woman, which is significantly below the 2.1 children per woman required for population stability. The country’s population has also seen a decline due to the ongoing war with Ukraine, which has resulted in the exodus of over a million Russians, particularly younger individuals. Russian Health Minister Dr. Yevgeny Shestopalov echoed Putin’s sentiment, emphasizing that work should not be a barrier to having children. He encouraged Russians to take advantage of their lunch and coffee breaks for family expansion. "Being very busy at work is not a valid reason, but a lame excuse. You can engage in procreation during breaks, because life flies by too quickly," Shestopalov was quoted as saying. When asked about the feasibility of this suggestion for those working long hours, Shestopalov stressed the importance of using every available opportunity, stating, "Make babies during break times." In addition to these unusual recommendations, the Kremlin has implemented several measures aimed at boosting the birth rate. In Moscow, women between the ages of 18 and 40 are being encouraged to undergo free fertility screenings to assess their reproductive health. Other strategies include restricting access to abortion, with public figures and religious leaders advocating for women to prioritize motherhood. Additionally, fees for divorce have been increased as part of efforts to strengthen family structures. Russia’s birth rate hit a 25-year low in the first half of 2024. Official data released earlier this month showed that in June, births fell below 100,000 for the first time, marking a significant decline. #vladimirputin #russia #russiaukrainewar #population #birthrate #populationgrowth #populationdecline #pregnancy #russian #fertilityrate #sustainability #future #news #newsupdate #recentupdates #Aslikahani #explorepage #reels #Instagramreels

The Supreme Court of India has temporarily halted the use of bulldozer demolitions across the country until October 1, unless the demolitions pertain to public roads, water bodies, or railway lines. This decision comes amid growing concerns over the increasing use of demolitions as a punitive measure without adequate legal oversight. The ruling, issued on Tuesday, signals the court's intent to create formal guidelines governing when and how demolitions can be carried out under municipal laws. Last week, a bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Justices Hrishikesh Roy, Sudhanshu Dhulia, and SVN Bhatti, expressed strong criticism of the rising trend of "bulldozer justice." The court disapproved of situations where properties are demolished without following the due legal process, calling such actions "inconceivable" in a nation committed to the rule of law. The justices highlighted that any action taken by the state, including demolitions, must comply with the law and not be applied arbitrarily. The decision was triggered by a case from Gujarat, where local authorities had threatened to demolish a family's home after one of the family members was named in the FIR. The family, living in Kathlal, Kheda district, sought the court's intervention, arguing that the demolition order was an unfair. The family's lawyer argued that their house had been legally constructed and that the involvement of one family member in an alleged crime did not justify the destruction of their residence. The Supreme Court agreed, stating, "In a country where actions of the State are governed by the rule of law, the transgression by a family member cannot invite action against other members of the family or their legally constructed residence." Responding to the SC's ruling, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav welcomed the decision. He criticized the use of bulldozers by the Uttar Pradesh government, stating, "Bulldozer can't be justice. It was unconstitutional, it was to scare people. The bulldozer was used to deliberately suppress the voice of the Opposition." #sc #supremecourt #bulldozer #justice #judiciary #news #newsupdate #recentupdates #Aslikahani #explorepage #reels #insta
