We Are Their Voice.

About us

The ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is the first animal welfare organization established in North America and serves as the nation’s leading voice for animals. The organization’s mission is to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States. The ASPCA provides local and national leadership in three key areas: protecting and rescuing animals from crisis, assisting animals in communities and advancing legal protection for animals. The ASPCA was founded by Henry Bergh in 1866 on the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans, and must be protected under the law. Headquartered in New York City, the ASPCA maintains a full-service animal hospital, spay/neuter clinic, rehabilitation center for canine victims of cruelty, kitten nursery and adoption facility. In addition, the ASPCA announced a groundbreaking anti-cruelty partnership with the New York Police Department in 2013, which has resulted in a record-breaking number of arrests and animals’ lives saved. The ASPCA also operates programs and services that extend nationwide, including a Field Investigation and Response team that rescues animal victims of natural and man-made disasters, a fully-subsidized spay/neuter clinic in Los Angeles, a Behavioral Rehabilitation Center for fearful, under-socialized dogs, and a 24-hour, 365-day Animal Poison Control Center that provides pet owners and veterinarians with live, on-call assistance related to toxic products and substances. In 2015, the ASPCA acquired Humane Alliance, the nation’s leading training and education organization focusing on high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter. The ASPCA is a privately funded 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization supported by more than 2 million animal advocates across the country.

🚨 BREAKING UPDATE🚨 Our disaster response team has been on the ground in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina assisting round-the-clock with critical disaster relief efforts following the catastrophic and widespread destruction left in the wake of Hurricane Helene in the Southeast. While assisting locally, we are also working to ensure the safety of the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center (BRC) staff and animals in North Carolina, and yesterday we urgently evacuated more than 30 dogs from the BRC to the ASPCA Cruelty Recovery Center in Ohio. As we remain on the ground in North Carolina, we are working at the Emergency Operations Center to coordinate with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture to establish a statewide pet supply distribution plan to support impacted communities. Our teams are also supporting the North Carolina Department of Agriculture with help coordinating with partners in Western North Carolina to determine how we can best support additional needs, including evacuating displaced homeless animals out of the disaster zone. In Georgia, our teams are also on the ground assisting with impact and needs assessments in the storm's aftermath. During emergencies like this, it’s critical that we have support from compassionate people like you. While our response to this disaster continues to evolve, we hope we can count on you. Please make an urgent gift today to support our lifesaving efforts for communities, people and pets in need 🧡 aspca.org/HurricaneHelene

This October, as part of the Subaru Loves Pets initiative, Subaru of America and its retailers will provide more than $3 million in direct funding through grants administered by the ASPCA to their local animal welfare partners to help cover costs for preparing animals for adoption, veterinary expenses, and more. Many Subaru retailers will also host adoption, microchipping, or other types of events in their stores to help ensure more pets can find loving homes in their communities. 🚨 URGENT: HURRICANE HELENE RESPONSE 🚨 Our team is currently on the ground in the Southeast with multiple response efforts following the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Helene in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. In Florida, at the request of Citrus County Animal Services and Franklin County Humane Society, we have been conducting water and land search-and-rescue assessments, providing support for animal evacuation and supporting impacted communities with pet food and other critical supplies for animals and pet owners. Escambia County Department of Animal Welfare has also been assisting us with emergency relief efforts in Citrus County. After FCHS shelter experienced flooding, we worked quickly to transport over three dozen shelter cats from Eastpoint to Sarasota, Florida. Shelter staff from Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League and Cat Depot were on-site to receive the 37 cats, and are providing medical and behavioral care until they're made available for adoption in the coming weeks. This emergency transport is just a slim part of our wider disaster relief in the Southeast. Hurricane Helene has also impacted our teams at the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center (BRC) in Asheville, North Carolina. While our response efforts continue, we are also urgently relocating dogs from the BRC to our Cruelty Recovery Center in Ohio. We will continue to update our relief efforts and assess needs in the affected communities! Read more here 🧡 https://bit.ly/3ZJjONC

Factory farms are a horror for animals, a trap for farmers, a danger to our environment and a disaster for rural communities. The Industrial Agriculture Conversion Act (IACA) would help farmers reshape our agriculture system by using conservation funds to convert factory farms into more humane and sustainable operations that allow people, animals, and the planet to thrive. The IACA is the FIRST stand-alone federal legislation focused on helping contract farmers who are stuck in the cruel, unfair factory farming system transition to higher-welfare, more resilient animal and crop production. Our 2024 ASPCA #SupermarketScorecard combines research on private labels and ESG/sustainability policies, analysis, and data visualization to reveal the opportunities that the largest supermarkets have to improve farm animal welfare within their #supplychains - even those stores that scored highest. Each supermarket was scored on the extent to which their corporate policies, progress reporting, and private labels address core welfare issues for broiler chickens, egg-laying hens, and pregnant pigs. Read the Scorecard and learn more about how the #foodretail industry can achieve progress on #farmanimalwelfare: https://lnkd.in/gUAFhXMn
