We are thrilled to announce that the 2024 James D. MacConnell Award goes to James Baldwin Elementary School in Seattle, Washington! Congratulations to NAC Architecture for this exceptional achievement! James Baldwin Elementary is a shining example of what’s possible when community-driven design meets a commitment to equity and inclusion. This replacement school project brought together a diverse Advisory Team—including educators, parents, and community members—who envisioned a space that is not only inspirational but also restorative. Through culturally responsive and inclusive design, James Baldwin Elementary fosters a supportive environment for a diverse and vulnerable student population, creating a place where every student can feel seen, valued, and inspired. We also want to recognize the multitude of outstanding submissions we received this year. Each project showcased innovative approaches to designing impactful learning environments. Explore the winning project and other inspiring submissions at www.macconnell.a4le.org Join us in celebrating this incredible accomplishment and the impact it will have on students, staff, and the community for years to come. #a4le #learningenvironments

A4LE Tour with Crandall ISD @wraarchitects @gcctexas 🗓️October 23, 2024 | 5:00 – 7:00 PM Central Time 📍Location: 2600 Fletcher Rd, Heartland, TX 75126 ✏️Crandall Middle School The new Crandall Middle school campus marks a new chapter in this school and community. As the district envisioned the new campus, the goal was to design a “future-proof” campus by embedding flexibility and choice in the design: flexibility both in daily use and long-term adaptability. This campus was also envisioned as a place that celebrates the fine arts, and as a hub for the community. In this session we will explore the design strategies implemented in this facility to foster flexibility, to promote student collaboration, and to create opportunities to engage the community.
