It’s been almost 3 weeks since I joined Attention as a BDR. If you are a recent college grad or looking to pivot into tech sales, let me offer you some advice… do not run, SPRINT at the opportunity to work for an early-stage startup that you truly believe in. I say this for a few reasons:
𝟭. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 - As an early professional with aspirations of one day becoming a CRO, it is paramount that I arm myself with knowledge around every aspect of the revenue organization. It’s not enough to just be a great seller. The fact that I get to collaborate with our growth team, CSMs, RevOps, and, of course, our AEs this early in my sales journey is invaluable.
𝟮. 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 - There is something so fulfilling about bringing on new labels that have a much larger impact on our pipeline than just another meeting booked at a multi-billion dollar company. When one of us BDRs book a meeting with a top account or an AE closes a massive deal, you better believe the whole office is celebrating.
𝟯. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 - Let’s be real, you need a dash of crazy in your DNA to pursue a career in the early-stage startup world. I can honestly say that every person I work with is relentless in pursuit of advancing their professional careers, but, more importantly, growing the company. It’s a super exciting time to be at Attention and the energy throughout the office is contagious.
All in all, are the hours longer at a Series-A startup? Yup. Are you juggling multiple responsibilities and wearing a bunch of different hats? Absolutely. Is it more hectic than most established companies? You bet… and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. Let’s Ride 🚀
