Finally! An official acknowledgment of what we all know to be true! Parenting has always been hard, but the current environment makes it even more so. It’s time for change at the federal, state, and private levels. Shall we do something about this? What do you think of the statement by the Surgeon General? Do you feel optimistic that it will bring about any change?
Parenting is hard. Not breaking news. But now, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has issued a warning that it’s so difficult for American parents that it’s a public health concern, reaching crisis levels. Parents’ health and well-being are really taking a hit. It’s loneliness. It’s money. It’s the stress that comes with managing a family. Improving the well-being of parents is, again, unsurprisingly, critical for the well-being of children. So we have to find some viable solutions. Things like: ➡️ Paid family and medical leave for all ➡️ Improvements in healthcare, education, and other institutions could increase the well-being of entire family units ➡️ Affordable #childcare ❗️ Any parent could tell you, “Yes, parenting is hard. That’s a no-brainer,” but acknowledging it on this level is a major update and one that could empower systems to help alleviate the stressors and mental burden.
