  • Most people think their online communication is understood 90% of the time. The reality? 50% of emails and texts are misunderstood (according to Nick Morgan, author of Can You Hear Me). And that number only goes up for neurodivergent people. (Just ask any ND person how often they’re misunderstood). At best, this means online conversations get confusing. At worst, it can lead to misunderstandings that affect how others perceive you, making you seem uncooperative or even overly critical. At Autentik AI, we’ve been working hard to ensure online communication feels safe and supportive for everyone. We’ve been building AI tool that help you: ✅ Navigate online communication ✅ Analyze messages—yours or others Instead of asking you to change your communication style, we’re putting the control back in your hands for how you come across in emails, texts, and direct messages. We call it our SafeTalk Bot 🤖 And it’s exactly what it sounds like: An AI bot that analyzes messages to determine if they are: ✔️ Definitely toxic ❓ Potentially toxic ✅ Definitely not toxic Right now, the bot works in WhatsApp, but that doesn’t mean you can’t copy & paste messages from other platforms into the bot! It works on both desktop and mobile, so you can truly take it anywhere you are online. Give it a try today at https://lnkd.in/ed4CkPuE#neurodivergence #neurodiversity #neurodiversityatwork #safetalk

  • 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 Neurodivergent people, you can’t rely on external support alone. As much as we're working on bringing neurodiversity inclusion into the workplace, you must be actively working on your internal support system, too. The unfortunate reality of neurodivergent inclusion is that it falls upon neurodivergent people to be on the front lines. No, this does not mean you need to be fighting the good fight every moment you’re at work—picking your battles is a key skill to develop—but it does mean that you're responsible for your own advocacy in whatever way that means for you. Here are a few ways we encourage all of our neurodivergent community members to start: ➤ Understand and learn how to communicate what you’re good at — this will help you support yourself when others question what you bring to the table. ➤ Block out recharge time every day — after meetings, after work, and after difficult conversations with colleagues is a good place to start. ➤ Learn how to politely say no — “I’m at capacity, but have you tried asking [supervisor] for help delegating that?” is a good starting point. ➤ Write down actions, miscommunications, or confrontations as they happen & time stamp them — these are called contemporaneous notes and are upheld in tribunal/court as evidence of discrimination. ➤ Seek out Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) — they'll be your first stop for external support, even before going to your supervisor about problems. Both the Equality Act of 2010 in the UK and The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 in the US protect against workplace discrimination—but it still happens. Knowing how to protect yourself is the first step to advocating for yourself. And knowing how to advocate for yourself is the first step to helping others learn how to advocate for you, too. It starts with you. What do you do to protect yourself at work? #neurodiversity #inclusion #inclusiveworkplace

  • Scripts that help avoid workplace misunderstandings The hallmark of neurodivergence in the workplace? Misunderstandings. The one thing we see time and time again in our community is the struggle, crying, and full-blown meltdowns over the feeling of constantly being misunderstood. We get it. It’s tough. There’s nothing like that particular negative bias being confirmed time and time again. But there's also something you can do about it. Learn to reconcile misunderstandings after you’ve realized they’ve happened. (After, because let’s be honest, most times we don’t see them coming.) It can feel like it’s entirely on your shoulders to deal with miscommunications, but when it comes between losing your job or taking on this extra work—well, the reality of being neurodivergent in the workplace becomes even more real. Next time you realize your communication's gone awry, here are a few scripts to try: 🦋 “I think there might be a misunderstanding here. Can we clarify what we both meant?” 🦋 “We might be on different pages about this. Can we talk it through?” 🦋 “Can you help me understand your perspective better?” 🦋 “I may have misunderstood you when you said [repeat what they said]. Can we revisit what you meant by that?” 🦋 “Let’s summarize what we both understand to ensure we’re aligned.” Notice how most of these are questions? When you ask a question rather than make a statement, you’re inviting the other person to participate in the conversation. This is a great way to gauge whether or not the other person wants to avoid future miscommunications, too, or if they might be someone to try to avoid in general. #inclusiveworkplace #neurodiversity #adhdatwork #autismatwork

I've been thinking about the outcomes associated with masking a lot recently, it's a hot topic in the neurodiversity community as always. My courses for autistic people have always centred around educating on what non-autistics generally expect (when they're not autism-affirming), so that individuals can assess for themselves whether they can consistently and sustainably meet those demands without unacceptable consequences in terms of wellbeing, or instead identify and communicate adjustments to remove those expectations or set boundaries in non-negotiable situations, depending on the degree of negative impact and consequences of meeting those expectations. I advocate strongly for a practical approach by the individual, risk-assessing the short, medium and long term consequences of masking in specific environments, and with specific people, to be able to make an informed decision for themselves, coupled with effectively planning an escape, or absolutely avoiding engaging with the situation in advance, if boundaries and adjustments won't be maintained by others when a decision has been made that masking is not sustainable or an option for the person. This kind of decision-making is especially hard for the autistic community I feel, considering factors like difficulty coping with uncertainty, predicting outcomes, anticipating consequences etc. But there are some excellent tools out there, apart from coaching, which I feel can really help. If you're autistic, and looking for practical tools for communication at work, to either help communicate in a non-autistic way (as part of an informed choice), translate others' communication, or explore u masking in a logical and effective way, then I highly recommend these tools https://www.autentik.ai/
