#Diwali, aka the Festival of Lights, begins today and lasts for five days. The holiday originated from the Hindu faith; it is celebrated across India and beyond. At AuthoraCare Collective, we are reminded to take time to learn more about this incredible tradition. We join @CEOAction in championing diversity and encouraging inclusion today and every day. #yourstory #ourexpertcare

At AuthoraCare Collective, “we meet our patients where they are by being present,” said AuthoraCare Chaplain Andrew Kang. Spiritual Care Week is Oct. 20-26 and the theme is Chaplains Beyond Religious Roles. “As chaplains, the relationships and connections we create provide support and comfort to patients and their loved ones during this journey and beyond,” Kang said. Kang has worked at AuthoraCare for six months now and said what he enjoys most is “the people.” AuthoraCare chaplains offer care, not just for the spirit, but mind and body as well. “The relationship between mind, body and spirit is an intimate one. When one is affected, the other sympathizes. And when we, whatever discipline we represent, care for one another, it gives the chance for those relationships/connections to revive and provide healing,” he said. #SpiritualCareWeek #yourstory #ourexpertcare

Spiritual Care Week is Oct. 20-26 and at AuthoraCare Collective, our chaplains wear several hats – from advocate to grief counselor. “Whenever we visit a patient, no matter our discipline, we always address the whole person – body, mind and spirit. Everything is connected,” said Eddie Self, Chaplain. “When a chaplain prays with a patient who is suffering physical pain, not only is the patient’s spiritual connection with the Divine nourished and bolstered, but it may also be that the patient feels a peace of mind over a worry that has been on his or her mind.” At AuthoraCare, we try to meet our patients where they are not just through spiritual care, but other ways. “Meeting patients where they are means that we may encounter deep questions with no answers,” he said. “The fact that there are no answers does not, however, diminish the need to, or value of grappling with the questions.” Self has worked at AuthoraCare for 10 years. “What I appreciate most about working at AuthoraCare is that I am part of a team of highly skilled professional people who have a profound passion for caring for others. I am proud and blessed to be part of this team,” he added. #SpiritualCareWeek #yourstory #ourexpertcare

AuthoraCare Collective was honored to participate in the Blessing Box Outreach Fair on Oct. 12 at Barber Park in Greensboro. Seventy-five people were in attendance and we enjoyed interacting with the 30 people who visited the AuthoraCare table! Pictured: Crystal Lee, Community Outreach and Resource Coordinator. Today is #NationalComingOutDay and we, at AuthoraCare Collective, believe that every person deserves to feel valued and heard at their workplace. Robert Eichsberg and Jean O’Leary founded Coming Out Day on Oct. 11, 1988, which marked the anniversary of the 1987 March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. It served as a reminder of the power of being our authentic selves. Since then, Oct. 11 has served as a day to celebrate coming out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Eichsberg and O’Leary’s vision was to celebrate LGBTQ+ identities and help to decrease the stigma. That vision is still important 34 years later. Ally Week, also called Solidarity Week, typically takes place in September or October. The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) held its first Ally Week in October 2005 to celebrate Allies committed to promoting safe and effective schools for all. LGBTQ+ K-12 students and educators lead the Ally Week program. AuthoraCare is proud to be a CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion signatory and champion inclusion for all – especially the LGBTQ+ community on National Coming Out Day! #CEOAction #yourstory #ourexpertcare
