Thank you to the Information Management Network (IMN) for having me at their inaugural ADU Conference this month. I enjoyed speaking about AvalonBay Communities' creation of nearly fifty Accessory Dwelling Units in California through conversions, ground-up stick-built, and modular development. As part of AVB’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re hearing from members of our Latinx Associate Resource Group, LEAD. Christian Ortiz, Community Manager at Avalon Wharton, shares more about his motivations in the workplace: “Cliché as it may sound, my family is my biggest motivation. Last week was Concierge Appreciation Week! It’s a time for both residents and associates to celebrate the hardworking teams that serve on the frontlines of our communities. As part of the festivities, associates in different departments had the opportunity to shadow a concierge and experience the ins and outs of the role firsthand. Fun and unique events are just one way we help build a sense of community for our residents. Eaves Pleasanton in Northern California just hosted a back-to-school event that was so popular it had residents lining up 30 minutes before it started! The on-site team dressed up, distributed 250 goodie bags, and wished residents returning to school the best.

In recognition of National Preparedness Month, we’re sharing helpful tips we offered our residents as part of our annual participation in American Red Cross' Disaster Responder Program: 📝Make a Plan: In an emergency, decide whether to stay or evacuate. If evacuating, plan where to go, how to get there, and what to take. 👜 Build Your Kit: Prepare a go-kit with three days of supplies, and a stay-at-home kit with two weeks of food, water, and one month's supply of medications. 💬 Reconnect: Ensure you have a plan to reconnect with loved ones if communication services are down. Our Senior Director of Inclusion & Diversity and Community Impact, Scott Ballina, attended Nareit’s HRForum last week, where he spoke on a panel about "Defining Culture & Advancing Inclusivity.” This session unpacked several tools and processes that build trust between colleagues by fostering connection, spurring conversations, and empowering teams to achieve their goals. Thanks to Scott for sharing his thoughts on how these practices make AvalonBay a place where all voices and viewpoints are valued.

We care deeply about the well-being of our residents and are pleased that our fitness centers remain one of their most valued amenities.
