Midweek inspiration! 🌟 We are beyond thrilled to share some exciting news from the International Desks at Weather Prediction Center (WPC)! Jose Galvez and Bonnie Acosta have been recognized with the 2024 WPC Peer Awards for their incredible work. 🙌✨ This is the first year that contractors and affiliates have been eligible, making this recognition even more special. For those unfamiliar, the WPC International Desks collaborate with NOAA’s international partners to train meteorologists from around the world and advance global forecasting capabilities. Since 1988, over 380 participants from 34 countries have traveled to Maryland to train directly with National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologists. The International Desks provide invaluable forecasts, including tropical rainfall and jet stream predictions, used by agencies like USAID and FEMA to prepare for and respond to severe weather events. 🌍🌦️ Bonnie Acosta was honored 'For her exemplary work at the WPC's International Desks. After several years with no international visitors due to COVID, WPC is again hosting several international students. Bonnie's work has been key to making this possible.' Jose Galvez received recognition 'For being extremely dedicated and hardworking, training visiting fellows, providing and leading IDSS, and developing forecast tools. We're thrilled to announce that Axiom has successfully secured a key contract with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Axiom will be supporting the National Weather Service (NWS) in Duluth, MN, by deploying a team of certified weather observers at the Falls International Airport in International Falls, MN. Our team will ensure precise and reliable upper air observations using the Manual Radiosonde Observing System (MROS). These observations are crucial for meteorologists and hydrologists and play a key role in global weather forecasting. Axiom, in partnership with Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC), has been awarded a 5-year contract to support the National Weather Service - Office of Dissemination, Geostationary Weather Satellite Antenna Systems (GWSAS) Community Satellite Processing Package for Geostationary Data (CSPP-Geo) Software Operations and Maintenance.   This is an incredible opportunity for Axiom and SSEC to develop a foundation of support that serves the NWS mission to ingest and disseminate satellite data for weather forecasting. Axiom will provide software installation, training, and system support for CSPP Geo GRB and AXI-Tools, ensuring the availability of valuable GOES data for dissemination.   We are excited to contribute to advancements in weather forecasting and support the vital work of the National Weather Service. #NOAA #NWS #AxiomProud
