St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital was proud to host its 3rd annual Stroke Reunion on World Stroke Day Oct. 26. Thanks to all those who joined us for another successful event that reunited stroke survivors of all ages and all walks of life with their caregivers. The community also benefited from doctors, nurses, physical therapists, social workers and other staff and resources who were on site to answer questions and provide information on stroke prevention and treatment. World Stroke Day calls attention to the fact that 1 in 4 people will have a stroke in their lifetime. Research shows that 90 percent of strokes can be prevented by addressing risk factors including high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation, smoking, diet and exercise. St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital was the first Comprehensive Stroke Center in San Antonio, meaning the hospital has the highest level of stroke certification and staff that can treat all types of stroke 24/7. Thanks to our stroke teams who go the extra mile to provide our patients and families with high quality, compassionate care and service. We are #BetterTogether at Baptist Health System! This Pastoral Care Week Oct. 20 – 26, Baptist Health System was proud to host the “Holding Faith While Making Space” Chaplain Appreciation Breakfast along with partners, Baptist Health Foundation, CHRISTUS Health and the Interfaith San Antonio Alliance. More than 50 chaplains from multiple organizations representing many diverse denominations, faiths and religions attended. Distinguished panelists Christina Rodriguez, Industrial Chaplain Supervisor and Mental Health Clinician at Tyson Foods; U.S. Air Force Capt. Fatih C. Ozcan, Chaplain at Joint Base San Antonio; and Rev. Lawrence X. Chellaian, VP of Spiritual Care and Ministry Identity at CHRISTUS Health shared about chaplaincy from their Christian, Muslim and Catholic traditions and led a powerful discussion about the many roles that chaplains play including as crisis interventionists, mediators, advocates, ethics and diversity champions and much more. Thanks to all of our Pastoral Care teams for their above-and-beyond efforts that provide us with hope and healing so that we can be there for our patients and each other. Together, we are #ACommunityBuiltonCare.

Northeast Baptist Hospital is the first hospital in San Antonio to perform a new procedure to treat patients with complex lower-extremity Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD). This was San Antonio’s first successful Percutaneous Transmural Arterial Bypass (PTAB) with the DETOUR System.    The system is designed specifically for patients with severe PAD in the superficial femoral artery (SFA). These patients include those who have long obstructions in the SFA, those with previously failed endovascular procedures, and those who may not be good candidates for surgical bypass. Our friends at San Antonio Fire Department recently paid a visit to our ER teams at Mission Trail Baptist Hospital and Baptist Medical Center in celebration of Emergency Nurses Day. We're so thankful for our partnership with SAFD and other first responding agencies who help patients get the life-saving care they need before transporting them to our emergency rooms. Baptist Medical Center held a special ceremony for employees with tenure over 25 years. These staff members are the foundation of our downtown hospital, providing compassionate care to the San Antonio community for decades. We're beyond grateful for these incredible individuals. Their commitment to Baptist Health System is inspiring and we are truly honored to call them friends. One of these team members, Jane Elton, has been a part of our BMC family for 55 years. Jane serves as our laboratory supervisor, leading her team in the testing and diagnosis of our patients. Jane has seen many changes at BMC over the years, but her commitment to the hospital has been steadfast and strong. She met her husband here, her children were born here, and she's grown her career here. We are blessed to have her leadership, kindness and wisdom. Congratulations to all our employees celebrating milestone anniversaries. We cherish each of you! 💙

Yesterday, BMC celebrated employees who have reached milestone anniversaries: 5, 10, 15 and 20 years at Baptist Medical Center. We enjoyed a breakfast and time spent with leadership, honoring the commitment of time these staff members have made to our hospital. We are so grateful for each one of these dedicated employees.
